I just don’t know what any new manager would need to do to appease everyone so that he can continue into next season with high levels of support. Average about a point a game? If we carry on similarly to how we have been and only get to about 15 points (say) then do you think new manager stays next season? This is why I’ve been saying to hold on for as long as possible with Martin so that someone like Corberan could come in and be given a more positive environment (one of favourites for promotion, some cash to spend to build a squad he likes etc) rather than now where you have 22 games to navigate where we have been terrible for 16 games and mentally the damage could already be done for the players and any manager may struggle to get results this season
Fans have been incredibly patient with Martin in the stadium this season. The bar is incredibly low for a new manager, bottom at Xmas and no one is expecting survival, but get the squad fit, competitive and high energy and everyone will be on board.
Oh I totally understand, and once again SR have navigated themselves into a bind. As a fanbase, we're really going to need to be understanding and patient now...
I think that the majority of Saints fans will accept the reality of the situation and will simply be looking for a improvement on the pitch which shouldn't be too difficult to achieve. Stop the self inflicted chances and goals against us and attack with more urgency and purpose. We still have things to play for this season to raise the spirits of the fans with a few wins and maybe a cup run, it is an entertainment business after all and it would be wrong not to give the team the best leadership we can get asap imo.
I keep going back to the change in no time that Poch was able to bring in. Just hoping for some more of that.
This. This. And this again. Rohl is such as an obvious appointment in my eyes. His work with Sheff Weds in the Championship has been absolutely outstanding. Add this to the fact he's already popular with a lot of the fans it just makes too much sense. However, this is ****ersen we're talking about here.
It would be very Saints-y to be the most patient and placid fan base on earth with Martin and the atrocious start to this season, then to give the next guy absolutely no time before getting right on his back with even slightly improved results because 'why hasnt he kept us up?'
Who ever we get I hope fans give them time and not give them grief if they don't keep us up. I would've thought giving our position most fans would be realistic.
Yep, Hoddle I remember making a first game impact. Russ may have had a pre-season, but the identity was there against Sheff Wednesday in his first game. Players are lot more mailable than they’re given credit for sometimes. We may only have a small group of bona-fide premier league level players, but there is enough variety amongst the rest for this squad to go in any football style
You think SR would make the mistake of sacking a manager mid season, then sacking his replacement in the same season, and still go on to finish bottom of the league and have to rebuild in the championship? That doesn't sound like them at all.
Interesting that Shea Charles didn’t look like he could hack the Championship last season, yet DR has him at POTS levels for Wednesday.
Is anyone expecting us to stay up this season? Would take a miracle I think. Which means the new appointment can’t lose really. Two wins and we’ve more than doubled our points tally.
Yeah this is why I'm not against the long term caretaker route with the aim of bringing someone in around March time.
Sheff Weds fans saying the compensation is more like £15m (For Rohl and all his staff) which could be a stumbling block if that is true
Didn't realise that, That's ridiculous. Upon further inspection, that Max seems to be WUM. As you were.
