The speed at which its happened, it must've all been in the pipeline (to the surprise of no-one); ain't no way they've made the decision, written a statement, appointed a caretaker and had the sacking meeting all in an hour or so.
No board ever slags off a departing manager. He’s a human being after all…he didn’t want to fail and no doubt worked hard, but he wasn’t up to the job.
"Behind the scenes, we are encouraged by the continued development of talent coming through our Academy. We are proud of the contributions our young players are making and are confident this will remain a source of strength and pride for everyone associated with the club." That's quite a random paragraph to insert into this story, especially as Saints have a tendancy to get rid of the promising up and coming talent... Anyway, whoever comes in next: Good luck, just have more than one style of play and let common sense prevail. As long as it looks like we're giving it a bash the fans can't blame the new manager
He had to go, but he has given us some good moments. 25 games unbeaten Wembley Cheers Russ, but we march onwards and upwards.
No, but they have certainly omitted that wording before. Either way i'm relieved he is gone, too little too late but we can start to at least make things respectful and plan for a promotion charge next season.
Yep, sad it's ended the way it did. Last season will live long in the memory but very much the right decision. He'll always have my thanks and gratitude. A bit like Ralph I guess, where it's just a shame he was kept on too long and it turned toxic.
Wembley was fantastic, but worth pointing out we were only there because we made a bit of a pigs ear of the regular season.
I enjoyed last season and had one of my best days as a football fan. That said, this should have happened after Bournemouth. It's too late now so I don't really know what the point is.
Meh, I disagree. Depends how you want to look at that summer; the mess he walked in to that summer, I'm amazed we were even close to competing at the top to be honest. Yes, he was left a good squad in the end, but that was far from guaranteed and we were just playing catchup all season.
Sounding out experienced and vastly experienced PL managers sounds somewhat improbable from this rabble
Yes we had a great day at Wembley last season and some great performances, but the teams were mainly weaker than us and the tactics had to be tweaked and a bit more realisation implemented this season. But it wasn’t. Eventually RM has fallen on his sword. But this is football management and they are paid handsomely. The King is Dead, Long Live The King.
About stabilizing the club so we do a Sheffield United rather than a Luton in the Championship next season.
I do agree. It just feels a bit hopeless. If this happened when it should have, it would have been met with optimism and renewed hope that the new man can turn things around and fight for survival. As it is, it is a feeling of relief and "what now?"
I do agree that it’s too late now. Wonder what Fat Sam is up to. Would he be interested in a temporary stint? I honestly want a ****ing premier league dinosaur that has a good record of spotting premier league calibre players and knows how to structure a PL club. We need to stop shipping goals and stop being so ****ing weak. I’d take any of the old guard at this point. The lack of football experience terrifies me
It was already incredibly toxic tonight tbh and had started to turn against Chelsea. Should have went ages ago before it reached this point but the powers that be lacked the backbone.
