Spot on. They’re not poor quality. They’ve been drained of confidence by Walter and they’re paying the price. We’ve gone ahead in both games under Selles, we’ll get there. I’m positive of it. I hope he gets a bit of quality in Jan
Rohl lost 5 of his first 6 in a similar position with the Wendies last season, worse position that is. We’ve got a tough run to brace for, but hopefully we can pull off some shock results
The issue is all but 2 of those signings are players developing and at the moment are not being consistent enough. I’m a big believer that Kamara will come good given he has these moments where he can unlock a defence like he did with the cross today. But he’s got a lot of his game he needs to work on and he’s not being consistent enough in his strengths to outweigh the bad. Not to just dig him out there’s a case to be made about Hughes has got a genuine error in him which would be papered over if the defence around him was better than him but it’s not. You have Hughes next to Greaves last year and it’s a solid back 2 for example
I do agree and I don't mind losing today, they were a decent side. What hurt us is not beating some of the absolute crap we've played this year. The last 4 have been really tough opposition

I wanted to check how Rohl started so I’m glad you’ve pointed this out. Both highlights it’s possible but miracle is likely to be needed if we don’t pick up results before Jan
Giles has a touch of the Marcus Maddison about him; obvious quality but something just hasn't clicked and I suspect it's the fact he never got the move to Boro he wanted. Seems minor but once that feeling of a place sets in, it can unsettle you no matter how professional you are at work. Matty Jacob, for all his endeavour, just isn't good enough. He's always going to try hard for his home town club, but he'll just end up coming short and that's unfair on the lad. We need some quality in January, that's for sure. I think we can send Burns back, but then you're in the position of needing central defensive cover again and the loop continues. I'd just like us to sign a good, solid striker and a couple of midfielders who can create, preferably one out wide and one through the middle.
I get it. I personally think that Jacob can do a job though, if given a run in the team. Giles, for whatever reason is done with us. Hopefully we can cut our losses and move on.
Towards the end we didn't have a plan B for corners- everyone stood in the middle and no one positioning to take the corner- eventually Jacob took them when in reality he is one of the better headers of the ball and another player should be taking it - that is down to the Nanager to make sure players know what's expected of them
If we want to buy a striker in Jan that will cost us even more That’s if we even can because it’s not a great window for picking up successful strikers I don’t think
Yep. To be honest, I don't think we should be putting all our hopes on January. Of course we have some weak areas in the squad, but we also have some very good players who can do more than they have so far, and it certainly isn't a bottom of the league squad. I think that is where Selles will improve us, rather than in the transfer window particularly.
I agree to a certain extent, but we definitely need additions, and not to the squad, but players who can come straight in and improve us, our midfield is so lightweight, and our fb positions are seriously poor, add to that creativity and someone who can stick it in the net, it isn't gonna be easy
The key fixtures as it stands are beating those immediately around us. not laying down for a tummy tickle... we have to get something hopefully 4 points out of the next 2 as then we have 3 games which are at the very least difficult. Blackburn who have won 6 on the spin, Middlesbrough and Leeds...
We’re going to have to take risks for sure given our position in the table, so hopefully Ruben can pull some magic in the transfer market. Baz confirmed on the podcast that the club have been in talks with a striker from the Premier League for some time, I’m led to believe that’s Deivid Washington who we came close to signing in Summer (and botched the paperwork apparently). It’s a loan, quite low risk as he isn’t on mega money at Chelsea and he is a real talent, but if he’s coming in then it’s without any experience in senior English football outside of a couple of minutes here and there. That was ongoing while Walter was in charge but it might be the case that Ruben thinks we need someone else and we scrub it. We need creativity AND muscle in the midfield. @PLT will laugh at me for this, but we need a David Meyler (I used to rag on Meyler a lot and he pick me up on it every time) type to take the game by the scruff of the neck. People are saying Coyle is washed, I disagree, he started the season fine and was great last season, he’s just going through a rough patch of form and I reckon Sellés will take him out the firing line for a bit. He can’t stay in when playing badly just because he’s captain, that’s Sunday league bullshit. I did say last month that if we were sticking with Walter, then it would be better to not spend in January and save for Summer. Whichever league we are in, the club needs a sort out (again…) without too much disruption. I don’t think it needs much to be a decent Championship side, it’s just been badly mismanaged.
Yeah it's not ideal. Like I said they might have shelved it when they sacked Tim as presumably it was Walter chasing him in the Summer.
I’ve been skimming some stats for yesterday’s starting XI and the average goals per season for each player and it’s absolutely no surprise we don’t properly look like scoring goals. Coyle - 1 goal a season Hughes - 2 goals a season McLoughlin - 0 goals a season Giles - 0 goals a season Slater - 2 goals a season Alzate - 1 goal a season Kamara - 2 goals a season Palmer - 1 goal a season Longman - 4 goals a season Pedro - 8 goals a season That’s a total of 21 goals a season on average. So far that XI has managed 7 goals combined. I know we’re focused on a striker, but we definitely need more goals across the pitch in general.
Good luck with that! I posted similar 3 or 4 (?) weeks ago and got shot down by several on here. It was a deeper analysis that showed we have about 30 goals a season in our starting line ups! Shocking. You are being very generous with Pedro! He's scored a massive total of 11 in the past 3 seasons, and a total of 6 in the past 2!! (although tbf, he's looked much better these past 2 games). On the flip side, you are underselling Kamara; his record is far better than 2 a season. I haven't double checked your other figures, but my post is still there with fuller details. The squad is so bereft of goal scoring capability right across it. Just one of the reasons Acun should have shot the so called 'brains trust' imo. I'm glad though that it's not just me though after all.
