Same mate, the missus would need the money more than me.<ok> Also the bairns are going to wait until we are both dead and then mix us together and scatter us bit by bit all over the Lakes. Mind, probably just chuck us in the bin <laugh>

Have you looked into it yet?
That’s what I’d like but I was wondering if they ever leave you alone after you’ve contacted them, so I haven’t bothered yet<ok>

There's a Co-op funeral directors near us, popped in one day about a year ago and they quoted £1395 all in. Haven't took it further yet but it was a very low key no pressure discussion.

That’s good mate. Something they never tell you though ( I may be wrong) my friend who owns a garden centre died and his wife got around £2,500 as a funeral allowance, she checked to see if this was correct and it was. Do you or anyone else on here know if this is true?
I definitely know she got the money, but could this be a widow’s allowance or something?

Not sure mate, only funeral I've organised myself was my dad's last year. He wasn't due any help with the costs due to savings.

Cost of what was a pretty basic funeral was ~£7k including the wake. It's not the money, I just thought there was more than a little performative cruelty in what the family had to go through on the day. I don't want my kids to go through that.

In All honesty I don't care.
    I'll be dead.
But, if I was watching from above I'd love them to play Star Trekking by the Firm.

All I want is for them to say, here lies Will, he was a good guy.

But, I wished my name was Jim.

As a funeral director I’ve heard quite a few. Music is such an important part of the service for grieving families. We did a funeral a few years ago and the guy who was cremated finished with the Timewarp! His wife got up and got everyone else up in the Crem to do the dance. Brilliant!!!

Heard some horror stories about these national companies so beware anyone thinking about using them. Bodies left in the hospital mortuary 5-6 weeks. Bodies stockpiling because they can’t cremate them fast enough. If anyone is thinking of a direct cremation, use a local funeral director

Ive tried co -op and wouldnt take a payment up front ( fair enough). However for a direct funeral, whoever contacts them on death, and then makes payment and will then do the rest.. Dont even have to visit them. Only sort of issue that my Mrs was sort of concerned about was that body could not be viewed after being taken away

I told her that she would have plenty of time to view it after battering me to death.............

Have not tried any other funeral directors, but at present trying to get my house in order, but left this in my instruction, together with phone number

Probably get better deals with other funeral directors but cant be arsed to shop around

I've told the Family that I would like the carcass to be given to The Hospital for The Medical Studants to practice on.
HOWEVER, this didn't go down too well at the time.

So, assuming that it will be a cremation, where the norm seems to be two bits of music, I have suggested they pick one serious piece, the popular tract from Elgar's Cello Concherto to open with and one 'humorous' tune to close the show.

    https://www.bing.com/videos/riverview/relatedvideo?q=where am i going lyrics - paint your wagon&mid=7C1E7A6AB493982E64237C1E7A6AB493982E6423&FORM=VIRE

And IF you have my sort of humour, it has appropriate lyrics too. and of course there is the connection to ourSpiritual Home.

    Where am I goin'?
    I don't know
    Where am I headin'?
    I ain't certain
    All I know
Is I am on my way

    When will I be there?
    I don't know
    When will I get there?
    I ain't certain
    All that I know
Is I am on my way

Happens a lot with these national companies. Like I said in an earlier post, look into your local funeral directors and the direct cremation packages they offer. A little bit more expensive but your loved ones are treated with dignity and respect. We do all our direct cremations at Sunderland Crem and families can come and walk down the aisle in the chapel to watch the coffin being placed on the catafalque

    Quick question...
I work in a Hospice, and when an undertaker comes to take away a body, they give the person handing over the body a couple of quid.
Do you know what that's for, or how it came about?
    Do you do this?

It’s a gratuity. Some places do some don’t. We give a gratuity at Sunderland mortuary. It’s all above board as long as they declare it

Like Snaggey just a curious one. Do you have to pay a fee/gratuity for the amount of churches you pass on your way to the crem?
