Giles was okay, last season, with good players around him. Now there are no good players he's dogtod. Losing Millar was a right kick in the family jewels. Not just for us, and him but for the rest of'em. He was going to be our main outlet. Now who is left. Longman? Kamara? He was good in L1 for Portsmouth. Poor in the championship. How many so-called good players come to HCAFC and instead of performing well, turnout to be useless? There's been a few down the years. This race to the bottom is down to a number of factors all of them traceable to the so-called 'Brains Trust'. Plus the leader of the pack. Well its his party and if he goes down with it he's only got himself to blame.
Due to the number of signings we made this summer based on potential, due to the players which have ended up injured and due to us holding onto so many of our League 1 crop of players and probably overstating their quality (or ignoring their lack of quality) we're currently left with a team that is essentially somewhere between League 1 and Championship in terms of quality/standard, at best. All of our 'first name on the team sheet' players have gone and because we've not replaced them with standout, PROVEN players at this level (bar one or two that are injured), inadequacies are showing right across the board. There's the odd player on our books who is proven at this level, but when you're surrounded by **** in a team game, you're also going to be ****. I've said all season that not taking our chances, making constant mistakes and not getting the basics right is down to the players and **** all to do with tactics. Wednesday we showed fight and it gave a glimmer of hope, but today we were right back to how we've been all season... Turgid, naive, weak, poor.
Spot on! Coyle needs a rest and Drameh should be his replacement on the right. Giles doesn’t make the effort to close down/stop crosses coming in and his best asset his crossing viz. Middlesbrough performances has been abject so should give way to Jacob having a run. Midfield is a real concern as there is no player who can control/command the engine room defensively, creatively or consistently. We are missing Zambrano, Palmer has shown his desire for the team (except today) Simons goes about his defensive midfield duties that aren’t always appreciated whilst Puerta, Alzate, Slater and Omur are bang average. In attack, Pedro is the best goal scorer we have who can link play, has good movement and can score the odd goal but needs to gamble/ anticipate more. On the wings, without our 2 season injured stars, we are left with a choice of Kamara, Longman, Burstow and Jarvis who all drift in and out of games. Our build up play is so slow (and has been under Rosenior and Walter) with our overall play being so pedestrian and deliberate. Baz mentioned the team’s desire was missing today especially after the Watford performance. Admittedly, recent results have created low morale but as professionals the least we should expect from our team is effort despite their lack of quality, This stemmed from the low bar in recruitment choices in the summer of 2024 when quantity prevailed over quality. We are now reaping the fall out of these decisions.
Anyone else a little disappointed that Selles has come in and , by and large, played the same players in a very similar kind of system that just flat out hasn’t worked? The whole club needs a real good shake up from the ground up. 2 up front would be a good start because none of the ****ers we have currently are capable of playing that demanding lone role they currently need to alone.
To be fair to him I think he went with it on Wednesday and because it reaped some reward and we looked better, he's went with it again today? I think next weekend we'll be nearer knowing who he thinks capable of giving 100% because they let him down today.
I mean, what else is he supposed to do? 4-3-3 is one of the most common formations in football. It’s what he’s used at Reading for most of the time he was there. As he’s a disciple of Hasenhüttl, he’s also experimented with the Red Bull 4-2-2-2 system but it didn’t work at Reading. Is now a time to be experimenting with different formations? He’s also fairly limited by personnel as well. Sure, he could give Burstow a start but today’s starting XI is probably our strongest team excluding injuries, which is a damning indictment. The squad’s ****ing crap cubed. I don’t even think Guardiola or the ghost of Cruyff would get a tune out of this lot.
He’s been here a week with probably about 2 full training sessions. Not to mention we saw signs of life against Watford. He said in the post match presser it’s on him to figure out how to tactically fix it. I suspect he tweaks it till something sticks
Disappointing after being 1.0 up, but we can’t keep clean sheets, I keep saying it we hardly ever score more than one goal so it’s so important we defend well. Disappointing again but we have to move on, we need points from the next home game. The manager is so restricted with the squad, it’s a massive challenge but hopefully he will find a solution to pick up the odd point until the transfer window.
Very disappointing performance, the players have to take most of the responsibly for that. Coventry won most of the 2nd balls, we just looked a yard too slow and lethargic, whether playing the same team as Wednesday was partly a fault, as the whole team looked leggy. Very few came out with much credit, Burstow was one, Pedro did okay, and Matty Jacob's at least looked as if he was trying when he came on. The last 2 games in particular, Coyle has struggled against good wingers, Drameh must be worth putting there and give Coyle a rest. Selles has a big job on his hands, I never thought I would say this, but Simons has been a miss. We need to turn this around quickly, or we will find ourselves cut adrift.
It's real fundamental stuff. Unfortunately we have some dumb boys in our squad who haven't played in environments that teach these basics. Hopefully the new manager will be able to bring in some smarter players in the new year as we build again.
didn't see match, watching highlights this am, have read a fair bit of this thread .....well....that first goal Alzate is an absolute disgrace does some pointing when the pass is made then makes no effort to stop the cross despite it being his man...penalty he slips and gives the ball away....not ideal....omg just seen their 2nd. Mehlem and Coyle deserve some punishment laps after that....mehlem obv learnt nothing after weds, had 2 opportunities to take him down didn't lay a glove on him, Coyle...he's been very good at points over the past season and a half but is obv struggling ATM he has to be taken out the starting 11. As for the CBS....no idea but if someone's free in the 6 yard box someone's ****ed up.
Maybe it's because in all the time he's been here he's contributed two assists and ZERO goals. For a number ten, he never impacts a game and gets knocked off the ball like an 8 year old in the big boys' playground. Could be that.
If any player has told his agent to get him out in January then I hope they achieve it. Might free up some spaces for players who give a ****.
