A new keeper either as back up for Basso or if Basso has dodgy knees then first choice, wouldnt mind a cheeky bid for Ben Amos at Man Utd either on a loan or permanent ( reckon 1mill might do it.) Central defender as back up to Hobbs and Chester, i like the look of Joel Lynch at Forest, he fits our young squad bill at 23, isnt a regular at Forest but has a lot of league experience and could do a decent job as back up (300k would get him i reckon) A decent striker to partner Fryatt and who will get goals. Billy Sharpe would do but we might have to pay over the odds to get him. A ball winning no nonsense experienced midfielder possibly Sammy Clingan from Coventry, might be hard pushed to get him but at 27 he still has a few decent years in him and would add extra bit to our midfield.
Vito Mannone back on a loan-to-buy basis, unless Pearson wants him, then we'll have Kasper Not too fussed when it comes to centre halves now that Cooper is back. Keep the usual Rosie-Hobbs-Chester-Dudgeon. Even if three of those four are unavailable for a game, we could still play say McShane-Cooper-Chester-Dawson, which is very competent still. A keeper, a winger and a striker. With Brady going we don't have enough options, unless you're counting Devitt. We need a proper Target Man. But one that can actually run faster than I can walk. Wouldn't say no to Sam Vokes but it's unlikely.
Must say, after what Mannone said in the press, a return on loan would seem to be glaringly obvious. I don't think we are in as desperate need in midfield as some might suggest, we do have Garcia and Oilyvagina to return. Extra cover at CB is needed but may not be as much a priority as other positions. For me Sharp looks ideal but somehow I doubt we have the funds to get him even if he wants to leave, Ipswich did have a £2.5m bid turned down in the Summer. I still fancy that lad from Barnsley as a Koren understudy, just in case he refuses to sign a new contract...........what was his name????
Jacob butterfield? Nice idea but unlikely, premier league sides have been watching him. He scored another cracker yesterday too.
Might not need to rush into anything- we've got Garcia, Pusic, Cooper, Oli coming back. If Barmby wants more players in i'd be hoping he goes for another winger and a striker.
Mannone on loan with a view to a permanent deal would be good. Think our options up front need improving, and depending on the Brady situation we may need another winger. Wouldn't say no to someone who can act as a midfield enforcer, though Mckenna had his best game for us yesterday and we're now seeing the worth of signing. With Cooper back defence may well be ok.
We need to sort the keeper situation out - Basso is 36 with dodgy knees and only on a one year deal. Gulacsi will go back to Liverpool at the end of this season. Midfield if Oli is considered not as bad as I thought in terms of strength in depth. Waghorn likely to return to Leicester and Simpson likely to stay down sarth therefore another front man is a must.
I would say so also, Mannone would be a good buy or loan, I hope his injury through is not a re-occuring one. Also need an Ash type mid-fielder as well as a good strong forward with a bit of height.
George Boyd at P'boro looks a decent larker. I'd rather see us go out and make 2 quality signings, both centre forwards to replace Waghorn and Simpson. Midfield will be strengthened by Oli and Garcia, defence we have McShane and Cooper. Centre forward is the only position we don't have strength and depth. Tie Koren down to a longer deal too.
I'd like to see us bring in Mannone on a loan with a option of a permanent deal in January and send Gulasci back to Liverpool. Some back-up for the centre back position wouldn't go a miss either. I also reckon we'll see Barmby bring in a winger and striker on loan in replacement for Brady and Waghorn.
One of the priorities has to be getting Koren to sign a longer contract. Other than that a winger, a striker and a keeper. Mannone would be nice!
In a dream world Ins Vito Mannone (and/or Myhill ) Matt Killgallon (was at Leeds same time as NB, with him being offered to Championship clubs, if Barmby rates him i think its very likely.) Michael O'Connor (gone off the boil abit at Scunny but got some good reviews as a DM last season in s struggling team, young too) Paul Anderson (from Forest if Brady goes back) Giles Barnes Gary Madine (Young Target Man) Billy Sharp or Jordan Rhodes depending on budget. Outs Harper Adebola Gulasci Olifinjana Brady (if he goes back) Waghorn (when he goes back) In a dream world!
It seems we need 2 keepers - Vito seems odds on as 1, who are the candidates for other possibilities (Other than Steele)
Possibly we need a good leader in midfield who can make things happen like Barry Ferguson . We also need a striker possibly Billy Sharp.
I'd have Steele ahead of Mannone, purely because of the injury concerns, I'd like any of Madine, Boyd, Davies(Barnsley) or Sharp(though I don't think we'll go over £3m for anyone), but I think Rhodes and Butterfield are probably Premier League bound.
Does Nicky Barmby want the job? I am confused why he has nt really stated any intentions. Is he waiting for some financial assurances from AP & Allam? Does he want to wait till he finishes his coaching qualifications?
He's got years to go before he finishes his qualifications, he hasn't finished his Uefa 2 and not even started his Pro yet. Must say I'm puzzled. If he was a true caretaker they wouldn't have appointed his backroom staff, surely? Maybe it's just to take the pressure off him a bit, but as time goes on the question of "When?" will get louder and louder and start to be a distraction for the squad. I think if we beat Birmingham, the dreaded "Lost Manager Collapse" is over and done with and Nick can sign a deal. The only other thing might be money assurances for January, but Pappa Assem has already gone on record about that. Confusing!
