Apologies if this is a bit sensitive or brings the mood down but what is your Funeral song going to be?

for me it is without doubt
In Between Days by the Cure simply because my boys know that I love that track

Bad (wide awake in america) for me is the main one

One by U2 as people come in

Same songs that I picked for my son. Only one missing is puff the magic dragon that played as the curtains closed.

I love and hate those songs

I remember a similar thread a few years ago, and i had a long think about it before i posted at the time.
Having had another think about it now, I'm still sticking by what I said then; I'm not picking any songs.
    I'll try and explain why...
I love my music, there's loads i could quite happily pick to send me off. Thing is though, my family might absolutely hate them songs. I would much rather they picked something that they remember me by in whatever way they want to. I couldn't care less what that is, as long as it's what they want...they will be the ones that look back and remember my life.

To try and put that into context.

I ****ing hate Queen and Whitney Houston....with a passion.
Either of them come on the tv or radio and I turn if off, or over. My family think it's quite funny my reaction to these two, and it's a bit of a running joke about how I am with these two. My son will leave the house and say "hey Google, play Whitney Houston", then he's straight out the door. (I'm trying to get the google speaker thing to say "**** off" to that command, but that's another story).
If they wanted to play some Queen or Whitney Houston ****e at my funeral, then so be it. It's something they remember me by, in a good way. The way I see it is it's for them, not me.

She sells Sanctuary- The Cult ( as folk arrive)

Pray -KingsX (song where the folk can sing along to the chorus)

Candles - Rufus Wainwright (the curtains bit, with the curtains closing when the bagpipes kick in)

No One Knows - Queens of the Stone Age (my fave song to finish)

Atmosphere by Joy Division but it changes on a daily basis.

If I get my wish of being buried on a wooded hillside on a dark and stormy bight then maybe O Fortuna by Carl Orff.

    Evergreen...Barbara Streisand.
First heard this at a mates funeral in late 70s, he died suddenly in his 30s and it's never left me.
Says everything to me about my relationship with my lovely wife.
Abide with me is also un negotiable, but as I won't know I'll leave that up to the family.

I've left instructions for a pure cremation and to have a piss-up with the money that would have gone on a funeral.

Not being remotely religious it would be hypocritical to have a church based funeral, but that’s not what this thread is asking.
A bit like @Snaggey i too love music, albeit I’m a piss poor musician. I grew up listening to rock and metal so I would have these songs…

    1. As the cortège and my coffin comes in I’d like Hells Bells by AC/DC. Not withstanding that I think it’s a great song I like the idea of the bells at the beginning of the song sounding as my coffin comes in.
    2. If they decide to do a celebration of my life with photos and stuff on a big screen, and I’m at the stage of mine where I’ve been to one or two funerals to know it’s a thing, at least over here it is, the only song I’d want is In The End by Rush. They have been my favourite band for as long as I can remember and the lyrics to that song are moving imo.
    3. As everyone is leaving it will be another song by Rush, being Tom Sawyer. No reason other than the beginning of the song sounds like something being ejected and the final verse starts “Exit the warrior….”
As for my ashes, as long as I’m eventually at rest with Mrs K and our hound, Chaos I’ll be happy. I’m not an emotional sort of person but if there is an afterlife I’ll be with the people and things I love the most. Our son, I assume, will be settled with his own wife and family and as such priorities change. I love him dearly but….The only thing I’ve asked him to do is to take a small part of my ashes and scatter them in the River Wear at Sunderland by the Wear Bridge. I’ll see that as a kind of homecoming no matter where the rest of me is.

Brilliant and eclectic mix that Bart.

She Sells Sanctuary is one of my all time favourites. In no particular order mine would include.

    Don't Go (Hothouse Flowers)

    Sit Down (James)

I will get to mine later after a bit thought however went to a workmates funeral, great lad only mid 50s. Crem was absolutely packed. Bloke comes through the door and the speech was "as your well aware Geoff wasnt religious in the slightest, thanks for coming now go n get p*ssed". Took longer to get in and out compared to the length of the service <laugh>.
