That was me I believe, let me clarify my view. When SR bought Saints we where there only club. I believe they called us their "jewel in the crown" Then they bought Goztepe followed by the French club. Now if expected that Saints go down, and with Gozepe being on track for the Champions league, does that not mean SR could switch their focus from us to Gozepe? What a way for Rasmus, Henrick and co to say, " look our project is working, we have got a struggling Turkish side into the CL" If and when Saints sell players, will that money soley be used by Saints, or does it go into a SR money pot to fund all 3 clubs? Look I have no idea, I am just opening up this for debate. I just don't trust the way SR is running OUR club, and wish Dragan ****ed them off, and was 100% owner, not just SRs investor for their vanity project. Like I said before, if you want to call me out I won't get offended.
I actually mentioned this a year or so ago I think, it would be way easier for SR to get Goztepe or Valenciennes into Europe before Saints due to the strength of the domestic leagues they play in. Whether that makes them the new number one club, probably not due to the strength of the domestic leagues they play in I’m sure SR would like a scenario where Goztepe and Valenciennes are regularly competing for a European spot and Saints are finishing bottom half PL consistently, that’s probably the dream outcome for them It could be beneficial to Saints if Goztepe did get into the CL, so I see no harm in hoping they do. If we lose every game til Jan maybe we should loan them our good players to help them do it
Thing is, if Goztepe reach the CL, they would then have to go through several rounds to even qualify for the group stage. Not one Turkish team managed it this year. And if they did manage it, the group stage would only earn them around 18m. One season in the Prem earns Saints over 100m. So I don't see the sense in prioritising Goztepe.
Best thing for Dibling - presuming we don't stay up, which frankly seems unlikely - would be to be sold and loaned back to us for a year in Championship to toughen him up. Question: We look sunk this season and part of that is down to our stupid pass it around the back policy gifting teams goals. If we played dull but workmanlike football (some long balls to keep the opposition strikers honest, a lot of free kick and corner practice to exploit set pieces) and were still hovering round the relegation zone, but with a reasonable chance of pulling out, would your attitude shift to our transfer window? It's rare to unearth a superstar in the transfer break, so typically the best you can hope for is minor improvements and someone functional to cover your most glaring problem positions, but with no likely prospect PL next season, who is going to want to come to us?
If we were in your scenario I would say that we cancel Cornet and Ugochukwu loans (obviously in this alternate universe where we weren’t playing ****ball they may have actually been useful and we wouldn’t want to terminate the loans) Replace them with 2 different loanees who could make the difference between survival and relegation. Also be on the look out for our usual young player who we think represents good value In current real life scenario I would say cancel both loans and don’t bother replacing them. Still keep a look out for youngsters but don’t bother spending on players for the first team, unless someone becomes available who we really want for next season at a reasonable price or one of these youngsters is a Lavia/Livramenro type who will come straight into the first team
Ahhh, fans trying to 2nd guess SR!!! I know it’s a fans forum to discuss but we don’t really have a clue of their real business goals (please don’t say 10yr plan) nor what their immediate thinking is.
I get what you’re saying but your last paragraph is the crux. The people running (ruining?) the club ARE in charge of us & Sport Republic (probably excluding Dragan).
Great news but I bet they won’t be paying same as our wages, so we’ll probably end up topping up. What a ****ing mess.
Championship says it all, have to say he looked completely incompetent and not being able to get in ahead of Manning or Sulemana is a tad embarrassing for someone who has previously had success in this league
I hope in January, if we are no better placed and still on 5 points, that the board get rid of the two loan players and tell RM to make do with what we already have. Give players like Sam Amo more game time to prepare them for life in the championship.
Does anyone think we could be hanging on to Martin until Dibling signs an extension? He probably wouldn’t sign it if things are more up in the air. Get the extension (which increases his value) and then ditch Martin. #strawclutching
So does that mean if Dibling doesn’t sign a new contract then Martin stays forever? FWIW, that theory sounds very much like your hashtag to me, but we take hope where we can find it!
That is exactly why. No way we are keeping him. Makes sense to get the most we can for such an asset. Think of it like spending 20k on a new kitchen, then selling the house for 40k more.
