Watch the 2002 animated film, Ice Age. It puts the freeze of '47 in perspective. A sabre toothed tiger and a wooly mammoth traversing frozen seas, dangerous falling icicles and bottomless ice gorges returning a human baby to its tribe.
It doesn't normally snow that much when it's -20. Tends to be very still and little wind. Actually far easier when it's -20 and 'dry' than around 0 to -3 degrees, wind and heavy snow. Just have to clean the roads once and salt and you're good with winter tyres. ****er to dig the ground, if you have to though. When it's 'warmer' and snowing, it's constant work clearing it up and re-salting, plus the wind and wet feels much colder.
I wasn't being serious, bt. Just laughing at a soaking wet and frozen Trumpton tiger being told to put his suffering in perspective by comparing to a cold period 80 years ago.. ;
Just been up in the loft to get the decorations down, and found a still wrapped present I forgot to give the kids last year. Shame really, they'd have loved that puppy.
I was out for a pint with some 'young 'uns' (well, mid 30s) last week and we was chatting about what we used to get for Christmas as kids. They wouldn't believe that I got a children's smoking set every year. please log in to view this image
