I disagree. A striker is paid to score goals, if he is missing sitters like Pedro does he needs telling and a message sending out to the rest of the team. It's all opinions of course, I have only ever worked with coaches who would give players the truth and its not done their careers and achievements any harm. I stand by the belief our players are soft. Browny was known for giving the players a spray at half time. He went too far keeping them on the pitch v Man City but you never heard of Ashbee moaning about the way he spoke to players.
Agreed. Some players need a cuddle, some need a rollicking. It's not a black and white coaching point. But if we are 0-1 and Pedro has missed 2 sitters he is getting told as far as I'm concerned.
I sit in West Upper and you could hear Selles, really loud it seemed a mixture of his annoyance but also instruction- he was trying to direct them to do what he wanted quicker by looks of it. i think anyway, it might have been ****ing hell you useless ****s in spanish, im not sure
I agree that there's something off about the character of our team. I backed Tim but there's no way Coyle get's involved unless it truly was out of order. He can be criticised for a number of things but his professionalism is top notch imo.
I saw a difference in the sense we played a CDM sat deeper in the first half which perhaps was to allow for full backs getting forward. I thought we played through the middle more too. However in terms of 'going forward' we did that under Tim and there is no end product. In terms of 'faffing' at the back we did it just as much at times last night. I have no issue with it by the way, its the only way to beat a press effectively without long punts up front where we have a tiny front line up against massive defenders week in week out. So yes a little bit different but nothing for me to be getting excited about. Selles is going to need weeks to sort this squad out, hopefully the positive results keep coming to ensure we are attractive enough to players. I know we have signed one from Reading already lined up but that's a bit uninspiring.
We have no leaders and very little experience. There is a fine line between giving young players confidence and giving them freedom to behave like selfish children. I'm hoping Selles manages to weed out some of them in January and we can get them off the books.
It’s not at that stage until they start replying to their own post with another war and peace length reply.
I didn't say we only need 1 point all season. I said we need 1 or 2 points more than the worst sides in the division in total between now and the end of the season. That allows for any points those teams pick up between now and the end of the season. We just need to be slightly better than the worst teams, that's it.
Yeh you would hope he does better. Great to see the team getting in positions like that though and if we keep doing it we will score goals even with the current forward line!
How many managers have fallen foul of player power? 1 is hardly manager after manager. The best managers / coaches seem to understand the importance of man-management these days - clearly Wally didn't.
He just told you a position, not a name? Well apart from Coyle’s. Coyle’s name was given & remembered, “.., and they all lived happily ever after”
Longman was snatching at things all night. His miss in the 2nd minute was neither a shot nor a pass (think he was trying to pass to someone) and his air shot 2nd half was laughable
We’re only a point behind Portsmouth, but they currently sit in 21st position with 17 points from 18 games. We’ve also played more games than all the teams around us, except QPR who are 19th and on 21 points. By the time we’re all on the same game count it most likely won’t be a single point. We’re almost half way through the season so the table is a pretty good estimation of how the season will pan out, in theory. There might be one or two surprises, but not many (and we need to be one of them). After the remaining 28 games its possible survival will only require 44 points (based on current points per game of the teams around us). We should be aiming higher so that we have room for error. If we’re only ever a point or two within touching distance all it will take is a surprise result or a slip up and it’s game over. If 44 points is all it takes to stay up this season, it would be well below the points needed to stay up over the last 20+ years and we’d be incredibly lucky. I’d rather not rely on luck and aim for the average of 50 points. You don’t come from behind in a race by running the same speed as everyone else.
