I went and we won, bloody hell, and it wasn’t too cold. As mentioned that first half was truly, truly awful. I’d like to think Marti gave them a “Neil Warnock” because second half we were half decent and Oxford were as **** as earlier.
Enjoyed that. A routine win with a makeshift attack. We never looked like conceding. Got talking to an Oxford fan on the train after who tried to argue both teams were poor and would be lucky to avoid relegation. I wasn’t bothered. We’ve done this before. And we were as good as we needed to be tonight. No point in showing off, although I did wish Field’s looping header had gone in for his hat trick.
The highlight of tonight other than the 3 points was meeting up with the Lovely QPRski (Jan) who I haven't seen in 5 or 7 years...safe journey to the Cotswolds and then home Jan. Xx First half we were shiii*e , but we still weren't the worst team on the pitch. Oxford were dire...and so was the ref. Second half we came out with purpose. Kolli got up so well to knock down the ball for Fields first goal. And Lloyd got out of the the way well for Fields second after Saitos excellent rob and cross. Field is such a good no 8 now...but only because Varane is becoming a really excellent partner in front of the back 4. The clean sheets are being generated by the protection Varane and Field give. But also Morrison and Cook have gelled well together. We are not missing JCS ( yet) , who would have thought that. We are still light of a forward thinking attacking midfielder though. It's not Andersen or Madsen. It's not Chair either this season (yet!) So we just need to keep the points coming now. in Marti we trust
Not long in due to someone jumping in front of a train at Weybridge. Lots of trains cancelled. The best bit of the evening was spent having a couple of beers with Stan and Stroller. I text Stan during the first half to say I might go home, it was quite frankly dreadful. It was the equivalent of two boxers just hugging each other with no desire to try and land a blow. The second half improved slightly and did enough to win the three points. Phew! It still didn't do enough for me to react when we scored. I can't even bother to jump up anymore. Miserable old git. Well done Sam Field.
He speaks so well! Manage expectations, stay humble and work hard as a team. Wonder if he is going to be our SAF? Nearly sacked by United (Marti must have been close to it a couple of weeks back) in the early days then the rest is history. I do hope so.
That’s the sort of game we would normally lose after the expectation of a better performance from a good run, serving up some first half dross. Probably would have done against anyone but Oxford. 1230 start Saturday against Bristol City, who have had an extra day to recover, I would hope to see a fresher team if injuries allow.
CW's match report ... Field the world, lets them know it’s Rangers’ time – Report - Queens Park Rangers News | Loft For Words
I conducted a somewhat interesting social experiment on Wednesday. After congenial pre-match drinks with Stan and Ninesy, I took up my regular seat in SAR, which is just about on the 18-yard line at the away end. There are probably around sixteen friends and sons of friends that congregate there on a good day, but I found myself alone on this miserable December night. After 45 minutes of abysmal football I was tempted to bugger off home, but then thought, 'Why not give the other end a go'. There were plenty of empty seats, so I just sat in one about equivalent to mine at the Loft end. I immediately felt oddly unwelcome, as if everyone around me knew that I didn't belong. There was a different vibe, too. SAR is probably the most genteel part of Loftus Road, - when my daughters come to games, they complain about the lack of passion from our fans compared to the invariably very loud away support - but there was much more vocal support here. Every subbed Rangers player was given a standing ovation, whether deserved or not - we'd just sit on our hands in our end unless the withdrawn player was actually worthy of praise. So it seems I sit in the least demonstrative Rangers-supporting part of the ground. I think I like this.
