Hull City boss Ruben Selles told BBC Radio Humberside: "We wanted to see a team that is aggressive and front-footed and I think in a lot of moments we saw that. "We started the second half well, we controlled the game and scored the goal but unfortunately at the end we conceded. "I thought we had done enough to get the three points when we scored. In my position I can't get too caught up in the emotions. "I want to see a team playing together and playing to our ideas and principles. I think the players did really well for the time that we have been together." Watford boss Tom Cleverley told BBC Three Counties Radio: "It feels like a point gained under the circumstances. "We couldn't change the momentum in the second half so I'm really pleased with the players' character to take a point after going behind." On subs Baah and Vata: "Those two players are fantastic impact players to bring on. I've challenged them to do the not-so-sexy part of the job now and that will get them in the team. They showed desire tonight. "Rocco has won us a point and I'm really happy for him." Ps did anyone else see Acun arrive in a Rolls Royce?
Tonight was a big improvement in effort if not quality. It’s clear Selles has a plan even if the players aren’t currently capable of executing it. I came away encouraged and the football couldn’t have been described as boring.
Just an observation from the 1st half, when Louza and Palmer had the handbags and pushing match in the centre of the park, Watford's goalie captain ran 60 yards from his goal to get involved and have his say, our captain stood 20 yards away and wasn't interested. Much better performance tonight, but we still don't look like a team yet, just a bunch of players doing their own thing - which resulted in mis-placed passes and missed runs. I have a good amount of confidence in Selles instilling a decent game plan into our team, sadly a few members of the squad will fall by the wayside though.
Ah. That’s better then. Was on the far side from me so looked more serious. No issue with a striker wanting to prove himself to his manager
Wasn't able to watch the game but from reading through the match thread it sounds like the team played really well but most our players are crap. Somethings not adding up.
No give them a chance , about it.....It's as obvious as the caterpillar on your boat-race Dennis....If you don't stick the ball in the onion bag from chances created you don't win football games. I learned that playing for Hall Road Juniors in the late 1960s. And as far as I know it hasn't changed.....We missed a sitter in the first minute, then several more before bundling one in. Better yes. Reflected in my chink of light at the end of the tunnel reference. I hope your right re: goals and wins.
Surely it take some quality football to create enough chances to get to be 4 0 before they had a sniff (against around the playoffs?)
If he ****s like he plays football, I doubt she’d be impressed. He didn’t do much wrong today. Well, his crosses were poor but he wasn’t as bad as he has been. Mehlem and Slater were at fault for the goal.
Feel like Mehlem has been shafted, Slater should be chopping him down at the first chance at that stage of the game
Quite enjoyed that. I think I watched a different game to Swanny at least. No shortage of effort, pretty even first-half but little quality. Thought we had the better of the second and again, quality lacking when it counted I felt we made our own luck with the goal. Felt we tried to step on for a second as well rather than sit back, but lo and behold chance from nothing (ably assisted by tired legs) and we lost the win. Maybe should have sat back in hindsight, but I wouldn't necessarily have trusted us to do that and see it out at the time either. Guess that happens when you're at the wrong end, but it was nice to feel the joy of leading for the first time in a while, however short lived. Points a point, and 1 more than our tally for the previous 6. Onwards and upwards.
I referenced it. Pedro had a smile on his face. Was more a "I can't believe we didn't get a corner, I hit that on target"
What a refreshing change that was. Must look different to those watching on tv than being at the ground. Some of the players have limited ability but really appreciated the effort put in today. What a contrast to Walterball, the midfield actually getting involved. The atmosphere was really good, crowd got right behind the team, not heard South stand as noisy as this for a long time.
That is actually pretty accurate, we played better as a team but still let down by lack of individual quality, wrong decisions, mistakes.
