Still think we should’ve just bit the bullet and paid the €1 million or so that Hamburg wanted for Meffert when we had the chance.
Not necessarily. The S*n are saying it could have been up to four years. 16 months might be seen as a reduced punishment to begin with, in which case it could be upheld on appeal. These things are never guaranteed and knowing our luck we’d sign him and they’d end up extending his ban.
Basically no. There's an appeal process ongoing. No indication when that'll be heard or the outcome communicated. These things usually get reduced on appeal though don't they
Even if it doesn't get reduced I'd still sign him. He'll only be what, 22? When the ban ends, after a season of football at 23 he'd still have a pretty decent price on his head given his reputation and if he can have a good season for us I don't see any reason the PL clubs that were interested in him before wouldn't be interested again.
Based on what those two guys said in the podcast mentioning him in the same breath as Caicedo and the previous Manure interest?we'd be mad not to sign. I think he's stayed in Hull? When you think about it, what team we could have put together this season. ZAMBRANO, PUERTA, BELLOUMI, ALAZATE, MILLAR...and then built on that in the next windows,
Hi, I'm one of the two guys on the podcast and it would be mad not to sign him. If he serves his ban, he'll be signed at a cheaper price. It wouldn't make very much sense to have signed him initially if we were just going to get spooked and send him back upon hearing his ban.
Hull City owner Acun Ilicali says the club will continue to support Oscar Zambrano during his ongoing case over his doping ban. Zambrano has not featured for City since the ban was handed down by CONMEBOL (South American football federation) on November 5, just hours before the 1-0 defeat at Oxford United, with his last appearance coming off the bench in the infamous 1-1 draw with Portsmouth the weekend before. The Ecuador international was banned for breaching doping rules set out in Articles 6 and 7 of the Conmebol Anti-Doping Regulations and is set to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Sources involved in the case have told Hull Live Zambrano has been banned for 16 months but is hopeful that on appeal, the length of that suspension will be reduced significantly, but it's extremely unlikely that he'll play again this season. For now, Zambrano remains on the City payroll until the end of the current campaign as part of his loan agreement with LDU Quito, though he's back in his home country for now as he goes through the legal process with CAS. "For me, all of my players are my boys, and whatever is needed, I will support him," Ilicali told Hull Live. "It's not finished yet, and now he will apply for another judgment (appeal). I think we will see the real result after some time. I'm here whenever Oscar needs me, and we will support him as much as we can."
