No it's a game often mentioned on City boards but they never seem to mention the unusually high level of animosity at that game.
Here's the reason Leeds got banned from their own ground. Ray Tinkler ignores the brown envelope and refs it as he sees it. Cue dummies out.
I was at the NI v. Spain game City v Leeds (Ian Mc testimonial...City won 7-6) City v Liverpool (played Tuesday afternoon cause of power restrictions. O-O) City v Man U Watney Cup Leeds v Spurs
Earliest ever use of FACT in capitals on this thread, by Tickler? I was at the Norn Ireland Spain game. Had the afternoon off school. That happened with a few games during the early Seventies due to the power being turned off. The 0-0 Liverpool League Cup game. Were there others?
I was at the Northern Ireland game and the Watney cup final. Best played OK in both but not brilliant either. Mind you, there were other great players on the pitch in both games. In the Ireland game, Terry Neill left the ball thinking it would go out of play but it hit the corner flag, stayed in and Spain got a cross in and scored. Nations League: 1,280 days without a home game - Northern Ireland's nomad years - BBC Sport
I was at BP for NI v Spain in East Stand, England U23 v Sweden U23 in North Stand seats, City v Man Utd Watney Cup in East Stand, Leeds v Spurs in the Well, City v Liverpool 0-0 in South Stand seats and many more memorable matches e.g. City v Millwall Xmas 1965 1-0 win, FA Cup and League 1965/66 home matches, City v Stoke FA Cup 2-3 loss in East Stand, City v Liverpool FA Cup 2-3 loss in 1989 in South Stand. Other memorable moments were shaking John McSeveney’s hand on the day City released him from his coaching role on the outside training pitches behind the gymn after a Tuesday/Thursday night schoolboy session circa 1969, sitting in the home dressing room listening to Andy Davidson telling us how to play the game properly!![ (old school)
One or two on this thread that we don’t see anymore. Whatever happened to Stuart Blampey? RIP Tickles
Ditto, but my memory is of Best not really doing much. Wasn't this game during the down slope of his Man Utd career?
I along with many more twagged school to watch the northern Ireland match and the Liverpool game. Forget what the punishment was but it was worth it.
That's my memory. Late on in the 76/77 season. I've probably got the programme somewhere. I'll have a look at some point.
I remember going to the game with my uncle . I think Rodney Marsh and Bobby Moore where in the Fulham squad that year but can't remember if they played that day
Me too and Leeds v Sunderland FA Cup 4th? Rd second replay? .City v Leeds, May 1971 was Chris Chiltons testimonial, attendance 27,000+. Not McKechnies.
Yup, I was there, and the England Under 21's v Sweden game, and wasn't it the FA Cup 3rd rd? Fulham went onto the final that year v West Ham? I have a memory of the Fulham Cup game at Boothferry Park. Late on kicking towards the North Stand and the score at 1-1 the ref pointed to the spot for a City penalty after a hand ball incident. Bobby Moore spoke to the ref, both laughing, and the ref changed his mind and gave a free kick to Fulham. Sure we drew again at Craven Cottage but lost the second replay played at Leicesters Filbert Street. Fulham went through and were beaten in the Final by WHU. Could even have been the Final where Alan Taylor, who later signed for us scored two goals? I also saw George Best, and spoke to him, at a Hull City Sportsmens Dinner Fund raiser held at Grange Park Hotel, Willerby in the days when Simon Cawkill was our commercial manager. He was such an attraction that the event was extended to two nights and the place was a sell out for both nights. Best was excellent from memory, sober too, cannot remember much of what he said but he kept the room(s) spell bound and was signing autographs at the end. I got my menu signed.....and gave it away. ps; late memory; sure someone shouted out from the audience, 'what was the best shag you ever had?' and Bestie replied, quick as a flash, 'Your missus'.
Still lives in Hessle cycles a lot sold packaging . Lived next door but one to me as a kid , helped push his Austin 1100 off when it wouldn’t start , when he was at City ! And he played cards at our house .
Give him a nudge then mate, be good to see him posting again Austin 1100 lol, I had one of those, unusually for such a small car I recall that it was like driving a plate of blancmange when cornering.
Spring is on about Stuart Blampey the former City player, not the poster named after him. The poster I think later went by 'City Man' and then eventually seemed to disappear.
