The difference in bing able to get signatures on contracts between January and in summer after deals were supposedly agreed in principal was quite stark. We were clearly a more attractive proposition before the events at the end of last season. I'm not buying the idea it's simply transactional and they go to the highest bidder regardless - as more than one club will often have agreed a similar package with the parent club and then will leave it to the player to decide from the available options. With Walter it would appear that even his own targets decided against signing for him as we saw with Meffert in the last couple of days in summer. That's obviously after the high profile snubs at the beginning of the window.
People will knock Rosenior for harping on about players coming to play with him as well but it’s noticeable in my opinion our only loan from a top premier league side was Fin Burns. As opposed to last year we got Morton, Delap and I suppose Philogene who had championship experience yes we got rushworth but I suspect we paid a pretty penny for that as well
So last we got 3 summer loans and this year we got 2 ( from the prem )... Massive difference there then. We shopped in a different supermarket this year and unfortunately we bought all the out of date stock.
Because we were prepared to pay the going rate for targets this season too, having agreed in principle with clubs and agents. The difference is last year they signed, this season a significant number opted for rivals.
We need to be signing players at the beginning of Jan. You can see the circus now....31st Jan will be the 1st signing.
Significant number.....how many? Bar the forward who went to Sheff utd who did exactly what each any everyone of us would have done in his shoes?
We bid £5m for Tom Cannon, who Leicester didn't actually want to sell and he ended up going to Stoke and has so far scored 7 in 15.
Moore, Assante, Conway, Cannon, Doak off the top of my head. There may well have been more. Trying for Meffert at Walters behest until he decided he'd rather stay put and sign a new deal suggests to me even his own targets were lukewarm.
I know we were interested but Was our bid accepted and did he choose stoke over us? I honestly can't remember
Take Moore out the list as I've already said he did exactly what we would all do in his situation so hardly counts. The other did we have bids excepted for them all? Players choose teams over other teams all the time, without knowing all details re the offers, wage, bonus, singing on fees, contract length etc etc it's unfair and also impossible to say that they straight chose them over us. If we knew all those details and they were all exactly the same and they then chose them over us then yes it's worth talking about as to why. But we don't so who knows....
Conway was the one who got away Doaks great but, i think we signed good wingers They both just somehow got acls
We made credible offers for players within our budget. Last season we were landing key targets. This season, despite substantial interest we haven't been able to. Clubs agree.in principal, agents agree in principal. Once a fee is agreed anyone else can match it. I don't think it's irrational to say that financials being equal we haven't been as attractive to players under Walter than last season. It was a disastrous appointment - irrespective of whether you agree with Rosey's dismissal or not.
Not really, I just think if we appointed a Selles or a Neil this summer they'd have been seen as credible appointments and we'd have landed more of the players we went after.
We haven't been able to land targets.... Bar the 17 we signed that is. We don't know any details on the financials so we can't claim anything. Moore, yes he definitely chose sheff utd over us and I'll say it again, it's a choice pretty much anyone and everyone would have made in his shoes and circumstances. But bar that we have absolutely no idea. If your theory is correct, why and how did we manage to sign 17 players?
