i was rosie in, but its a pointless comparison our team is completely different selles vs walter will be good though
Were used the midfield a bit more. That's the only difference. We still concede stupid goals and we still can't seem to score, despite creating decent enough chances, which we were doing under Walter until the last couple of games. As for the worst performance in years, for me it was 'that' Doncaster Cup game last season. We've not been that dire since - albeit we've come somewhat close recently.
I never said he was. I've also not mentioned Selles until right now. I'm making a point about the players having a very poor season and the recruitment over the summer screwing us over. If we're talking about Selles, then he's got a hell of a job cutting the errors out of this side and instilling some confidence. Only IF he can manage that will we see if there's quality in this team.
That wasn’t my point. I meant more like if someone was to say ‘we aren’t as clinical as we were last season and that needs to change’. Yes, that might be because players and manager have changed or whatever, but it doesn’t really have to open a larger debate on the quality of manager or players, but can be more an observation on what we are seeing at the moment v the recent past. As time goes on that means last season becomes even more irrelevant, but as it stands it’s the most recent comparison so will be the one used. Hopefully next season it’ll be ‘we’ve been more clinical than we have been for years’
One of the downsides of the manager replacement in August (mentioning no names) was that last seasons manager appeared to be well liked and respected as much outside the club as inside. Got the distinct impression it was one of the reasons we got in with the big clubs and got Delap and Carvalho on loan. And getting rid of said manager tipped the balance the other way when it came to recruitment last summer. I’m hoping Selles will nudge it back towards being a more attractive option for potential incomers in January. Swanny was on RH a couple of weeks ago saying that in general the only players available in January are needy or greedy so he wasn’t overly optimistic on us filling in the gaps in the squad.
We got the players as we were willing to pay for them,it's not as if they stopped loaning us players is it....where did burns come from? Needy and greedy only in Jan.... You mentioned carvalho, remind me...when did he come to us?
He was only available in January because his German loan ended early. Not exactly a glut of young exciting prospects knocking around at that time of year unless things are going badly wrong in their current situation.
We've had some very decent and influential Jan loans, plus it doesn't matter why he was available in Jan, the point is he was and players like him can be and will be available this Jan as well
Yeah, anyone who thinks survival is doable could be said to be sampling far too much of that spirit, but I dare say crazier things have occurred.
Right, and my point was that maybe Selles being in charge will help tip the game in favour of those rocking horse poo sorry abundant players deciding to come to us and not changing their mind in the car on the way here.
PS...On strikers, if we hardly create a worthwhile chance, then who's going to put them in the onion bag?
Maybe he will, maybe he won't.... For a team in our position, the biggest factor will be ££££ and we'll have to pay over the odds to attract
We're three points away from getting out the relegation zone, with 27 games left to play, of course survival is doable.
Love your 'up-and-at-em' attitude..... Looking at some of the places we've still got to visit, the likes of Sheff Utd, Cov, Burnley, Sunderland, Bristol, WBA then I guess the bulk of the points will have to come from fortress MKM....Errrr...
This squad assembled was supposed to challenge for the play offs. It’s not at that standard, but it’s certainly not bad enough to be a shoe in for relegation. I think a few good results is all it will take to get the confidence back up and finish with a lower mid table position come May.
They can and will have multiple options too. Hopefully Selles can attract some of the better ones to come and play for him as opposed to them seeing other potential clubs/coaches as more attractive propositions.
The premier talent that everyone that will be after is Louie Barry. It’s not out the question we could go for him as we’d be able to offer him game time. But I imagine someone like Boro would be far more attractive a proposition
