No two, one was zero, one was very little. It’s not a criticism of the owners it’s just a fact and has had an effect. Maybe backing is the wrong description. Spending more accurate. PSR has tied up the owners and with it the manager.
13th is a different statistic to 2 in 11. Covered that ages ago. Your own statements on viewing the full picture cover it. The season is only 15 games in. Conveniently leaving out 4 games is ridiculous especially when we won 3 of them along with 3 in 3 from the cup also not mentioned. Selective even by your own standards
I will definitely agree that ff he had more money in those windows it would have helped, but I just don't agree that he hasn't been backed. Can we agree and disagree ?
I think I've said this several times but looking at one window while ignoring all the others is selective At least I've balanced it by saying 4th 7th 13th so far and 2 wins in the last 11.
We’ve wasted money, though, and the flapping last summer was disgraceful. Not all on Howe but he has to shoulder some of the blame.
I haven’t ignored the other windows, I’ve said the last two the spending has gone leading to a drop off . 4th 7th and 13 th ( so far) is a drop off but a totally different statistic to 2 in 11. 4th and 7th also reflect a full season. 13 th so far doesn’t and only selecting 11 from 15 (18) is just totally selective. Oh dear we’ve lost all of our last 1 game
So we agree he's been backed... and we agree it would have been great if more money was available. This downturn has been going on quite a while you know...Howe might prove his doubters wrong or he might not.
We always have agreed he’s been backed but down to no fault of the owners they haven’t been able to do that recently leading to a drop off because you have to keep spending to keep progressing as you’ve said yourself. Howe might do well in the end or not, it’s the OTT reaction to every blow that gets ridiculous.
So it appears this is all about posters reactions rather than the debate itself. I don't think you can stop people having their own reactions mind. It takes two sections of fanbase to create debate and I'm just that nuisance that makes it all worse.. apologies for that.. Let's just move on.. we agree he's been backed and of course more players would have helped.
Said it a week ago but he is walking a tightrope currently. great result vs Liverpool sandwiched inbetween 2 horrendous displays vs West Ham and Brentford.Luckily for him he has the next three games really to save his arse - possibly 5 games if he drops points vs Ipswich and Leicester but makes it through Brentford in the QF's. Leicester (H) Brentford (H) Ipswich (A) ------------- Villa (H) Man U (A) That will take us to January and the start of a window - where it is clear there is some money to spend having had £50m to spend on Guehi (at a minimum) in the summer. Same as my comment from a week ago - if he get's to December 30th more than 10 points of 5th/6th and out of the cup he's done for imho. If he is through the cup he needs to win at least 2 of those games above to stand a chance and if he is out of the cup I think he honestly will need to win 3/4 league games or go undefeated in them to be allowed to start 2025 with us.
He just isn't learning, same formation, same ****e subs at 60 mins in a game, same ****e corners, same struggles against teams who just sit in a low block. If he looked like he's trying to adapt and change things, i'd be more for giving him time, but he isn't.
Thing is there’s quite a big job to do here and Howes misplaced loyalty isn’t going to be very helpful. We have number of ageing players in and around the first team, alongside a chunk who aren’t good enough. If you cut away all the above we’re really threadbare. None of our goalies are good enough, RCB isn’t, RW isn’t and we’ve one centre forward. We’ve kept hold of crap for far too long, now none are worth owt. I read some bollocks about us wanting big money for the likes of Trippier and Almiron. Why on earth would anyone pay much for these? We’re living in a fantasy land. Our transfer business since the takeover has been a real mixed bag. Yes we’ve signed some real talent but the right outgoings have been non existent. I’d bet money that when Botman is back, Burn will replace Hall at left back. We shall see.
Did the exact same thing at Bournemouth before he got them relegated. Loyal to certain players and wouldn’t even consider changing anything.
Agree with the formation - or lack of a plan B - point. As a coach you HAVE to mix it up and try other things when it isn't working and he isn't currently.
I know this doesn't happen, but Howe should probably get rid of his coaching team and replace them. Howe with a better coaching team would probably be the ideal situation
So he could have other people trying to make this 433 work?! Not sure that’s the solution! For me it probably can work but we have to line up with the far more mobile Tonali in the 6 role and should be using Bruno more advanced. Miley needs to be brought back in. Things i struggle to understand - why does Tonali need a rest when Bruno plays more or less every week? Same with Gordon. These lads have played entire seasons so what is it about Howes team that leaves them unable? We don’t even have ****ing Europe! I don’t get Howe anymore. We have a limited squad so just play your best XI barring injury and suspension. Then, when you can, buy a player who will upgrade the team. The current best XI picks itself bar right wing where you could argue the case for Murphy, Willock, Barnes. Clearly we need a GK, RCB and RW, that’s it. Why over complicate it?
Get where you are coming from but: ALL of our GK's, Kieran Trippier, Jamal Lascelles, Dan Burn, Emil Krafth, Matt Targett, Issac Hayden, Sean Longstaff Jacob Murphy, Miguel Almiron, Callum Wilson AND probably a few others I'm being generous to...Lloyd Kelly as an example Aren't good enough to play CL Football - which is where we need to be to generate the income to progress GK x 2, Pope RB Tino, x1 RCB x1, Schar LCB Botman, x 1 LB x1 , Hall CM x1 , Miley DM Tonali, Bruno, CM Joelinton, Willock RW x2 LW Gordon, Barnes CF Isak + 1 and Osula 5 starters and 5 reserves away from a squad that's comfortably good enough for challenging top 4 every year (while shipping out 13+ players)
I watched an interview with Howe and when he was asked what he thought of kompany at Burnley he said he admired him for sticking to his guns and not changing his approach. I knew at that moment that no matter what occurs on or off the pitch Howe will continue on the same way. The fact Burnley got relegated seemed immaterial. I'm wondering if there's a page in the coaching manual that says something similar because it's not just Howe it's all of them. These guys ride waves imo..... all about money in the main and when the money runs out they need time or weren't given the resources.
Mostly agree with this but the money for that is difficult with psr. It will unfortunately take time. Shipping out 13 requires willing buyers and players prepared to go. Longstaff will stay for now if only to fill home grown numbers if we get into Europe (some day) until more come through the ranks. id give Kelly more time.
