I thought about Xmas day volunteering some years ago. Couldn’t find a charity that wanted more people on Xmas day, it’s a popular gig. They get organised quite early and it’s harder having too many volunteers than it is having too few.
Ok. Thanks…we need to find a new tradition, now the Santa presents thing is dead. Maybe a holiday over Xmas? But I prefer the volunteering option first
If you think the weather is bad, showing now the big freeze of winter 63 is on the telly, Channel 5 select.
Watched a repeat of the programme on the freeze of '47 on Ch 5 Saturday night after I got back from City. Properly put this weekend's storm in perspective. Power cuts, near starvation and floods. 'a bit wet and windy' just doesn't compare.
It really was a different time, looking at the machines they had trying to clear the roads of snow, the people just put more clothes on and no fancy gortex waterproof helly hansen stuff either. The train stuck in a snow drift so they sent another loaded up with was it 4 hundred blokes with shovels to go dig it out by hand, took them days. Now the country stops at the mere mention of snow.
