The 5th place finish was clearly an anomaly, the season he came in he did worse than Houghton had done (knocked out of the FA Cup by Stevenage), and the season after we finished 5th we barely scraped enough points to stay up. Fine Ashley clearly never wanted us in Europe and didn't back us after that, but apart from that one season Pardew was a disaster - losing to Stevenage, turning Cisse from one of the best strikers in the world to dogshit in a few months, banned for headbutting a player, calling a manger a **** on live TV, appalling results, having a SackPardew.com website created by the fans....and utter rubbish record since he left us. Pardew was more washed-up than last week's laundry when we brought him in, and we gave him an extra 14 years as a manager that he really didn't deserve.... I'm just surprised he was even around the club recently, let alone commenting.
Well I haven't, I leave that for those who shout Howe Out whenever we lose a game and promptly change their views to "give him the rest of the season" whenever we win a game.
I'm not living in the past I'm pointing out that people move the goalposts. They couldn't get that player and that's all it means. Answer these questions please.. how do you know that the manager wasn't happy to wait rather than buy other players he didn't want? Also how do you know they weren't going to sell players to fund the deal if the guehi bid was accepted ? All we know is that the club has backed this manager to the hilt and they would have backed more if possible.
It was chippy that made this thread...he's Howe in. Howe out now and Howe needs to be replaced are different view points entirely
As we're gravitating towards a discussion pertaining to the thread title, I'll state my opinions once and for all. It's not necessarily black and white Howe Out or Howe In, I'm neither a staunch defender of Howe nor one who wants him gone right now. He has done well and has credit in the bank right now, although a bad run of results in the upcoming games will make the pressure mount. Although should we beat Brentford and get to the semis, then he should be allowed up to the semis as a bare minimum and should we get through the semis he should absolutely be allowed the final. The point I'm getting to, is that even if we finish 17th this year, if he wins the league cup, he's a ****ing hero. Go out of league cup and finish mid table, it's a very bad season. Go out of league cup and Prem form improve and finish in Europe places, then it's a decent season.
I'm Howe needs to be replaced. I want a better manager, but don't just want him out without a proper replacement.
I'd like to see a better manager because they'll bring a better coaching staff as soon as possible if they can get them of course. Until then I accept it's best to stick with Howe as he's done well up to a point it appears.
January it actually was. Look it up again. Summer wasn’t zero but very small acknowledged by anyone commenting as not backing
The ridiculous thing is this summers transfer spend is still about £65m when you take into account the Vlachadimos, Hall and Osula transfers.
The full picture isn’t needed really to analyse the last two windows. It’s not selective unless you claim he hasn’t been backed at all which no one is doing. The backing hasn’t been there recently and there’s been a drop off. No one is allocating blame just stating a fact.
Pointing at one window now? You need to look at the full tenure and Eddie Howe has been back to the maximum possible under PSR regulations.
