There are only three options. 1) ENIC sell and we chance it with new owners. Might be another Moshiri, might be another FSG or Tony Bloom. 2) ENIC stay put and we chance it with another manager, hoping we find another Poch who can polish turds. 3) ENIC stay put and we stick with Ange, backing him with the sort of money that will put us in enormous financial risk but be prepared to take that risk and sell key players if it doesn't reap immediate dividends. I personally think option #2 is the most likely. By a distance.
Not one to troll to be honest, even when its you guys. But even at 2-0 down I didnt think we would lose, because we rarely do against you guys. On the question of Ange.....you get rid of him right now, and its Southgate or Potter for you, unless you appoint an interim and wait till next summer for the permanent appointment, but Ange isnt the one....his flaws, the high lines, the lack of defensive coaching from set pieces...combine that with your defensive injuries (not his fault obviously, but still) and you are gonna end up with catastrophic results when you come up against decent attacking teams. I'd write off this season and see it out with Ange, and spend the time between now and next summer looking for someone who can work with this squad and be a bit more flexible. As for us, our defence and midfield are cooking, but our defence is meh and our goalkeeping options are ****, so we aint winning no title. Cole Palmer though....my god what a player, love him. Spurs though, you need to write this season off and either hire another manager for a new project, or hope your injury woes get better and that Ange can work it. We have seen that you guys can play well, for the first 10 games of last season you were cooking, and against (an albeit lacklustre) City you have shown there is potential there...not many go to City and bop em 4-0. I personally think you'd be better served by a manager who is a tad more flexible, given your board tendency not to spend crazy. Ange is a bit too stubborn, which doesnt usually go down well in the PL
3 isn’t happening. 1 also isn’t happening despite that’s what we need to happen even if there is a risk of it going even worse. 2 will almost certainly happen… and probably a bit sooner than I initially predicted.
Many of us would argue about injuries. We're top of the league for sprints and if you watch us week in week out, you'll see how our system leads to multiple players being 40-50 yards out of position by design and, due to a very porous midfield, constantly bombing it back into position. The defence bears the brunt of this physical strain. This has led to multiple hamstring and groin injuries which are typical of that kind of conditioning. An our willingness to throw half-fit players straight back into action doesn't help at all.
I don't want to see any sort of pile-on on Bissouma (or Ange or any of our players), and I'm sure he's genuinely remorseful, but haven't we been here before with him - more than once? He's not the player we need and he's not as good as he thinks he is, but worst of all for a professional footballer he lacks basic discipline.
Well you would know better than I. All the more reason to dump the aussie. Do it now though, and its gonna be Potter most likely.
I'm not as against Potter as others on here. I voted for him, not Ange, last time DH put up one of his polls (it happens ever other year so I lose track). We seem to be trying to emulate Brighton in our market strategy, so maybe he would be a good option. You'd know better than me but my impression of his time at Chelsea was that it was way too much way too soon and he struggled dealing with an owner who was basically playing a computer game with him as an avatar. Would you disagree?
It was certainly too much too soon for Potter and at Brighton he did very well on a tight budget, so i'd certainly expect him to do relatively better for Spurs than he did with us. He likes possession based football and he isnt suicidal defensively like one could argue Ange is. You could certainly do worse than Potter.
Well lads. I've heard misery loves company. They always disappoint when it matters most, ey? Must be a north London thing ............
Slot has settled in well at Pool so could be there a while would go all out for Alonso tbh since he won’t be going to Pool any time soon Seems to know his **** and Leverkusen probably spend less than us etc etc just what we need for someone to be able to work with Levy and his limitations as an owner
He’d hang up on Levy during the approach. Can you imagine the convo? “We want you to repeat your Leverkusen success here as we give you more Richarlison’s and Werner’s”. Probably Madrid bound anyway I reckon.
lol yeh true that though I’m just trying to see if there is any **** out there who has what it takes to work with Levy…we’ve tried every mould I think ffs
I’m still trying not to think too far forward because ultimately we all know it’ll just be someone for another 18 months anyway. Though if Ange does get canned I think as has been suggested it’ll probably be Potter. I think he’d do better than Ange but he’d still likely struggle under the restraints of the hierarchy. Said after the Bournemouth game though that January’s gonna be very interesting. £100m+ budget and the club’s doubling down on Ange, another Werner window and he’s sacked within a week or two.
There became a point when abramovich owned Chelsea where they’d hired and fired almost every manager and we referred to them as a poisoned chalice. - we questioned why any manager would go there, having seen the fate of their predecessors. More recently, I remember us all questioning potter and poch’s decisions to go there. But it’s got to the point now where we find ourself in our own similar situation. Managers must be looking at our track record and thinking “no thanks”. It could limit our options further in terms of choice. If I was Thomas Frank, for example, I’d be waiting for an alternative club/offer. And who knows, maybe Potter will be thinking the same after his time at Chelsea. I’d love to know the details of how our meeting with Slot went before we ended up where we are now.
I've just heard that Ange will get an immediate contract extension of 5 years, Levy will give him £500m to spend over the next 2 windows, Bastoni, Bellingham and Pedri will join in January and Harry will return in the Summer, rejuvenating Son for a couple of years! That must have been some strong **** I put in my Horlicks last night!!
It's actually quite sad that Ange's stubbornness could well cost him his one shot at managing a high profile PL club. He's going on 60 and apart from Celtic has only been at clubs most people have never heard of. This was his moment on the biggest stage of them all and he is blowing it almost as a matter of pride.
