Was I? Care to find the posts where I said those were bad performances? In fact I think there's a clip on one of my podcast episodes where I say almost literally the opposite, that we had a string of good performances against Burnley, Sunderland, Portsmouth, and Oxford and just couldn't get the result. My push for Walter to go was very much due to the growing divide he had with the fans, the clearly unsustainable run of results (not performances), and the clear issues he had with a number of the players. So did you want Walter to stay? Keep in mind I don't want Dawson as the permanent head coach so I'm not entirely sure what point you think you're making.
The point is that we could and should have had a result against a side coming 6th in the table and were playing well enough that they felt it was better to set up shop and protect their lead than kill the game off. It suggests that if we can continue to build and improve on that performance we can get results against sides doing worse than 6th. I thought that was quite apparent.
My concern at the moment is we have too many players who are not suited to a Championship relegation scrap like Omur, Mehlem and Kamara and that's off the top of my head. Getting a decent striker might not be enough. I'm sure people on here will remember that season when Payton got about 25 goals for us and we still went down. Yesterday with the conditions they should have told Pandur to launch it and generally go more direct to help the useless Bedia try and get on the ball more and use his physicality, the one attribute he has got. Palmer gives me some hope with the positive way he plays and maybe make him captain too, you could say Coyles captaincy has not really worked out seeing we are bottom of the league. But we might need a bit more than a prolific striker.
Coyle is captain because he’s from Hull. He has a friendly and welcoming influence in the dressing room which isn’t to be understated as he helps new players settle in at the club but he’s not a leader on the pitch. He’s not assertive enough. Anyone remember in League One against Doncaster when we won a penalty and Magennis was the designated penalty-taker but Wilks snatched the ball out of his hands and insisted he take it instead? Coyle sheepishly went over and tried to defuse the situation and convince Wilks to let Magennis take it as usual and Wilks just pushed Coyle away. Wilks got his way, scored the pen but pissed off an angry Magennis and undermined Coyle who was captain that day in Smallwood’s absence. Coyle came out of the situation with his tail between his legs. Nice guy and good to have in the dressing room but not captain material.
I was Literally inline with that goal, the problem was I think it’s Coyle was nowhere near enough, should have closed him down and prevented the cross, Blackburn player did him way too easily, shouldn’t let him cross goal side. There was only one way he was going, crap defending…..
Against Blackburn we, yet again, managed to concede a poor goal, and, yet again, failed to score. In between those two feats we huffed and puffed, and Dawson decided to remove the player that looked to be our best chance to salvage something from the game, I still don’t understand that decision. So, we still can’t score, and we still can’t keep a clean sheet, but we can huff and puff quite well. I genuinely hope that Selles can make a silk purse out of a pigs ear. TWT.
Palmer seemed to be getting increasingly frustrated and wound up, what did Dawson say post match was the reason? It looked to me like he was taking him off because he was losing his focus on the game.
I can’t say that I recall him saying anything or giving any reason why he’d replaced Kasey. It still seems a crazy decision, I wonder what Selles made of it.
My interpretation was palmer really wanted to win and was basically trying to pull the team forward with him…slater on the other hand was dire… Literally
He was asked and he did explain. Said he thought Palmer had been really good but he wanted to add more energy, we had good players like Ömür ready to come on fresh and he felt that tiring legs in our attack were letting their defence get more time on the ball which was giving them more of a foothold in the game.
So somewhat what I was thinking - that he was losing his control of the game and we needed someone on with fresh energy and focus perhaps. He did look like he was getting a bit leggy, he hit a few tame shots right at the keeper which doesn't really help anything.
People were leaving, staying indoors and going higher up stands to get any form of shelter. That genuinely was the worst weather I’ve seen at a game at the MKM. Normally I don’t get hit by the rain in the west. I was drenched at full time
Bar Plymouth all of those teams have a head coach that has the team backing for experience in this league. They also all have grafters something I don’t think we have
