Ruben Selles speaking to Tipsbladet magazine in Denmark: “After the match against Brighton [on 21 May] they called me in for a meeting the next day, where they told me that they wanted to go in a different direction. I respect that and it is the club’s decision,” he said. “I would have liked to have stayed and continued with the project, because I now know everything at Southampton. I know the players, what personnel we need for the coaching staff, the environment and the country. But again, it’s not my decision. They made a different decision and I respect that.” “I have already spoken to clubs in England and Spain. Let’s see who’s interested in talking to me and starting a project together,” Sellés explained. According to Tipsbladet, he received interest from unnamed second division clubs from England and Spain. The former Southampton manager has also opened the door to a return to Denmark. “I have always said that I have had four fantastic years in Denmark at Århus and Copenhagen respectively. I have good personal and football memories. My family had a very good time in Denmark, so I am open to a job there,” he added. “I consider the Superliga to be a good league, so if it happens and someone is interested, it will be my pleasure. “My priority is to get to a place where I feel that the club believes in me straight away and where I can be allowed to develop a project that can be taken to a new level. I want a place that trusts my plans right away. There is an ambition to deliver results, but it is also about time when you want to establish yourself at a new level.”
Unlike Jones, I do wish Selles luck and hope he finds a decent job somewhere. He's a good bloke really.
I know he hasn’t demonstrated it, but you just know that the following will happen. We will play Reading in the first or second game Reading will get promoted automatically (with Swansea) and we’ll have to sweat it in the playoffs.
Telegraph: Championship side Hull City have approached Reading for Ruben Selles, who is the club’s top target to be their new manager
Looks like Selles to Hull is done. Pleased for him TBH. Really nice bloke and good to see him start to work his way up the managerial ladder. He was completely thrown to the wolves by SR when they appointed him after Jones was sacked - very unfair to expect him to go straight into PL management. Hope this move works out for him.
Ruben is a top guy and he deserves this chance after the work he's done at Reading. If he does complete the move to Hull, I hope he's very well compensated as they're not exactly renowned for retaining managers even after relative success (think Rosenior!) For me personally it's a shame as he and his family are well settled in the south, with his son playing alongside mine in U12s Tyro league. They're a lovely, warm family. They've really immersed themselves with the other parents from the team (going out for meals, drinks etc.) - One thing he was keen to do after leaving Saints was to stay fairly local so that he didn't need to move his two children from their schools and friends again (he has shifted his family around a lot over recent years while his two children are at impressionable ages) - He turned down offers in the Championship and abroad in favour of Reading because it meant he didn't need to up sticks from their home in Winchester. I'm thinking Hull will perhaps to be too good a deal to turn down (and with plenty of potential to be successful)
