I was thinking last night at 4-1 “well at least we didn’t get battered and embarrassed” Then realised that losing at home 4-1 is pretty embarrassing and counts as a battering. Then they scored the fifth anyway. What a great club we support
FWIW we shouldn’t have sacked Puel - because he got the best out of the players available and he was pragmatic.
I was ambivalent about Puel until I saw him go batshit crazy with joy after Shane’s goal at Anfield. I wonder where we would be if we had stuck with him?
Only discussing that this morning over a coffee with a battered Saints mate who went last night and had a rubbish journey back home!! Continuous counselling needed for a day or two for him I think!!
It's easy to say that now but let's not forget he bored us all to tears with his style of football. We had loftier ambitions back then as well.
Which we completely failed to achieve. Puel got us a Cup Final, no one else has done that since WGS. (Not counting the playoff final, that was different gravy).
Puel was so boring. Will never forgive him for messing up the Europa run with the weakened team as well. However, yes I would take him back in a heartbeat. Is he available?
He is - hasn't managed since being sacked by St Etienne, with his team in last position having won two games in seventeen matches. Seems perfect.
I do think Jack Stephens should be stripped of the captaincy. He called the Ref a **** gets a 5 game ban and getting a red card for hair pulling is not a great example of how to captain a team.
I am in no way justifying Stephens actions but with the decisions that have gone against us I can't remember a season where I have called the Ref a **** myself so much so than this season and we are not even half way through.
You can just imagine Martin calling Jack to one side in the game yesterday "Jack, do something stupid and get sent off. I need an excuse to why we lost that takes the focus away from my **** football. Don't worry, you'll be straight back in the team as captain again" "Ok boss. Leave it with me"
Should also be heavily fined by the club and made to sit outside of the match squad for a month at least, after he’s served his banned games. Totally fed up with him being shoehorned into the team anyway. Simply unacceptable
Almost everyone gives him a wide berth, which means that the only people he 'bumps into' are the ones trying to sell him something. Typical conversation - Russ: How much for a pound of oranges? Market trader: That'll be £50 Russ, and me and the other lads think you're doing a great job Russ: That's good to hear. I'll be back tomorrow for one of your £50 Mars bars
