It seems like Selles is number one choice for a lot of fans, and don't get me wrong I can see he might be a progressive manager like Liam. But it has to be said that if we're saying this time round we really need EFL experience he has less than any other candidate we've talked to - and none at all at our level. Much made of how he kept Reading up despite their points deduction last season but it was only 6 points and without that they'd have still finished in the bottom half of League One. And this season they are currently just in a play off place. It's hardly a substantial body of evidence. Whereas Alex Neil has overseen promotion to and from the Championship. Do wonder a bit if Alex was Spanish, not bald and shared a name with Man Utd's new manager whether people would feel differently.

This guy is basically the Baz Cooper for the Reading local paper. Sounds about as gutted as you could get.

No, you’re not imagining it. There was a realisation, fairly soon after he came in, that we’d actually employed the wrong one.

Think it was Barnsley at home, second or third game of the season where I thought nah wtf is this (I was a miserable twat even at 13 <laugh>) 2-0 up followed by a shambolic collapse and 3-2 defeat

It was. I remember us being 2-0 up and playing superb, exciting football before we seemed to lose our nerve (especially Parkinson) and it all started to fall apart. Up until half-time in that game I thought we were on a roll and were destined for some real success that season.

Wasn't used to it after four years of solid, largely successful football under Taylor

I'm very happy with selles, and a bit surprised as I thought we wouldn't bother with in work managers.

It's not just the deduction, it's the transfer ban, the chaos of the owner, etc. Keeping the squad motivated and focussed and still producing good football is hugely impressive.

Odd thing is we weren't that bad in the first game at WBA...They'd just come down from the premier league so were expected to do well....Ref that day was a joke. He turned down a clear pen for City, which prompted a fan to run on, to be tackled by Craig £agan before he could get at the ref, thank god. Then he was jumped on by a couple of sleeping stewards. Even though we lost 2-0 we didn't look bad and I, for one, thought this Parkinson will do okay. How wrong was I?

I agree, but it's a very different set of circumstances to what he'll face here. Feels like he's done really well with academy players and maybe created a siege mentality.among the chaos which is all great but this is a v different challenge. Not saying it won't work but there's a degree of risk which some seem to be choosing to ignore in being sure it's a great appointment. I'd call it brave.

One of my favourite things to do when we're bringing in someone new is to have a look at the training ground they're leaving behind and imagining them seeing the one they will be working at now <laugh>

That's my feeling too. Not sure we can afford another risk when we're in a relegation scrap, but I suppose LR was exactly the same
