The direct bit though. Everyone wants to be direct, of course you want to score as soon as possible. The problem is what do you do when the opposition defend tight and don't let you just go straight to goal. Both Rosenior and Walter often struggled to find ways to break down those defences, and as such their teams found themselves passing backwards and sideways a lot. Whoever takes us over there will definitely be times where that happens and we are going to have to learn a bit of patience.

I'm happy. It means we can sing the 'we've got....Ruben Selles, we've got...Ruben Selles' song again and I like that one. <laugh>

I think its important that we bring in a manager that focuses on a passing game simply because we have an abundance of short technical players. If we try to play another way we will keep losing because we just don't have the physicality or character in the team to make it work just now, and to change this would probably require another big over-hall.

I’d rip your arm off for 2 big men up top and some wing backs

He has the best home record of any manager from all 92 league clubs. I like the potential of this appointment better than any of the others. He can bring Lewis Wing with him as well.

His team built on free signings and academy players.

I think he addresses that in the article and how found that he couldn’t just bring a tactic and blanket apply it as teams will be different especially in a physical league 1.

I'm sure there's a few people that would prefer someone else but Selles seems to be the majority choice of the fans which I think is important in getting everybody behind a new manager, this isn't something Tim had the fortune of following the circumstances around sacking LR.

Great article and it provides a lot of info on how he sets up his teams his educationally and playing background etc. Very Impressive I am excited.
Team set up: modified from Southampton to counter the the L1 Hoof ball tactics

"Formations are always in line with principles and the idea, which in this case was to be a high-pressing, energetic team that could make quick transitions to attack. What we found was that there were some teams against whom we could not apply high pressure. We were expecting to win the ball in those high spaces, but it travelled too quickly towards our back four"

    Education highly educated Phd candidate
"I had started a PhD on the ability to repeat high-intensity sprints, for transitions in football, when I got my first opportunity to join a club"

    Playing background
"Growing up, it was clear that my life would be focused on sport. It was also clear that I was not able to be a professional football player, so I needed to get involved in another way"

    Mentors
At university, I loved the subject of high performance, so my education went in that direction. I did my B and A Licences – and eventually the Pro Licence – and completed my university education studying for a masters under professor Paco Seirul·lo, who has been in charge of FC Barcelona’s training methodologies for the last 30 years. That gave me a knowledge of how to create a high-performance environment in team sports."

I think if we get this guy we have got a winner. Go for it Acun

It all sounds very promising. I certainly like what he’s saying about adaptability and flexibility depending on opponents and tactics etc.
That’s where Walter was sadly lacking and to a lesser extent LR too.

Masses of expectant die-hards are gathered around the MKM waiting for the Fumata Bianca to seep from the boardroom...

Not only that but he’s worked with basically Reading’s academy as he’s been forced to due to their embargo’s. Having to blood in 18 year olds into men’s football and still getting results.

The only box he doesn’t tick is direct experience in the championship but he does have understanding of the English game which in my book is good enough.

And finally Acun and his brain team can leave the confines of the boardroom after being locked in there since Walter was sacked and go for a well earned pint at the Botanic.
As an aside just read Conclave outstanding read highly recommend it.

Yes another impressive part of his resume. Hope to see some of the under 21"s and maybe under 18's progress under his tutelage (hope I am not getting ahead of myself here)

Acun loves getting hoodwinked in an interview by grand plans without any substance, doing a reasonable job at Reading hardly inspires imo…
