We are now 4 points off the relegation spot. How far do we have to drop before something is done. With this Manager in charge there is a real chance of us dropping into the relegation Zone. I used to play Sunday League football and what I saw last night was very similar. Every team we play looks better than us. Crawley who sold all their best players in the Summer looked head and shoulders above us.Ex Charlton rejects like Camara and Barker looked better than what we have got. As a Charlton fan I am sick and tired of how this Club has been run for years now. If Jones is still Manager next season I will not be renewing my season ticket or Valley Gold membership. I just can't take another season of this NON football. I will just watch Welling United and the under 21s
I agree with all of that, but the fish rots from the head down. Interesting to see SMT brown noser Dubai today claiming that the SMT made Jones “the highest paid manager in our history”. Thats another lie of course, Alan Curbishley would have been earning seven figures in the Premier League, and righty so, but as always with Methven & Co, the one thing they are good at is getting a message out to shift the blame. One assumes that the Global Moderator is no longer available for this purpose
Sadly I predicted we would be 14 points below 6th place by the end of January if not sooner. The gap has widened from 7 points to 8 points since I said that (2 games ago). And that's despite the win over Burton. On average we slip half a point further from the play-offs with every game we play. That has not changed all season. The top 6 teams will just keep on winning & drawing, and playing decent football. Even 7th to 10th place will be doing their best to keep pace of course. @Charles No Likes Hawtrey is right - another season is over before Christmas. Yet I assume Jones will stay as long as we do not actually drop into the bottom 4. And if Charlton finish 15th this season some muppet somewhere will claim we have made progress. Then we'll be in for three more seasons of the same rubbish.
Some bizarre comments from Nathan Jones on Charlton TV this afternoon. He admits we are inconsistent, and seems perplexed as to what to do about it. “We are winning our Cup games” he said. Yes …against Bromley, Southend & Walsall. Maybe there’s a reason for that…
He looks like he hasn’t slept for a week. He’s well known to be highly strung at the best of times. He looks and sounds fraught.
He looks like a dead man walking. He hasn’t got an ounce of Charisma or personality. Garner and Holden were at least likeable.
Good article from Chicago. https://chicagoaddick.com/2024/12/04/rodwell-methven-scott-what-have-you-got-say-for-yourselves/
"Since we were relegated in July 2020 we have signed 85 players on permanent and loan. Only 5 of those (3 loans) have gone on to play at a higher level". Says it all really. Two Charlton permanent signings out of 85 players were on an upward curve in their careers which continued after they left the Club.
Methven talks (and goes unchallenged) via his Podcasts. I haven’t listened to one in full, but the content is near identical to the BS he spouted in Sunderland til I die - namely that he is the man to revolutionise English football, through marginal gains that see clubs reduce costs while improving on field performance. It’s complete tosh of course - as witnessed by our worst ever league finish on his watch last season. As for Scott, he was challenged at Bromley Addicks on his performance, and I paraphrase his sneering reply to the fan as “you are a bundle of laughs, I’m glad we haven’t got you at the training ground”. That sums Scott up - an arrogant individual, with no professional achievements in the role to back it up. When you add Rodwell into the mix, another BS Artist, you can see why we are now in such trouble. I’d love to be a fly on the wall when Methven has to ask the US billionaires for more money.
His career has been decimated by injury, but he’s made a nice few quid out of his move to Stoke. If he’s been sensible he should be ok
