I wouldn’t say that. Early signs are cup win and second place in the Erediversie, and five wins from six in the Premier League…
We'd basically need to hit top 8 form for the rest of the season to stay up from here. Or to put it another way have similar form to Poch's full season. Not happening in a million years.
I thought they were pretty **** when they beat us too tbh and that's not just sour grapes, would have thought the same whatever the result. We threw that one away + Fatawu tore a very makeshift left hand side a new one, plus the usual VAR going against us. But ultimately, regardless of how poor they looked, they won. And that appears to be the same again last night. If you can be **** but win a game every now and then anyway, you'll have a decent chance at staying up. Like Magic though, I do ultimately still see them going down with us and Ipswich.
I was only talking about what he's done with Leicester so far. In Holland he had a far superior squad to most of the other teams. And he's a Man United legend, OGS had a similar response when he initially took over.
He's had 1 game at Leicester, and he won it, so not sure what you're judging him on? He wasnt even in charge of the Brentford game.
Not necessarily. We don't know how many points it will take to stay up but it certainly won't be 40. Could easily be low 30's. I accept we're up against it but it's far from impossible.
We're on 5 points. Even to get 30 we need a dramatic turnaround and realistically probably need at least 10 points from our next 6 games. We are currently on 5 points from 13 games... Those next 6 fixtures are: Chelsea H Villa A Spurs H Fulham A West Ham H Crystal Palace A There are some winnable games in there sure. But Ipswich was winnable, Leicester was winnable, Wolves was winnable etc.. It's not impossible, but realistically we aren't winning 3 and drawing 1 of those 6 fixtures. And in a parallel universe where we somehow do...that is still only getting us on track for 30 points. Last season might give some hope as 27 points would have been enough, but that was an anomaly as far as I can see. I think the next lowest points total for the team that beat the drop was 34.
I'm aware all the stats say we're going to go down and by a significant margin. But for myself, I saw something in the 2nd half against Brighton which makes me unwilling to completely give up just yet. Like I said in a previous post, call me daft if you like.
Out of interest. Had we lost the first half 3/4-0 as we probably should have done had Brighton not been so wasteful in front of goal. And then performed just as we did in the second half. Would you still be as hopeful going forward based on that same second half?
Nope! We certainly rode our luck in the first half but as a promoted team, you're going to need plenty of it to stay up. I was just impressed with the way we turned that game around. And we're the only team who have given Liverpool a tough test recently as well - Real Madrid and Man City failed to do that.
I honestly like where my mindset is right now. I want to go to games with that feeling where there's plenty riding on it but also not too fussed if we go back down.
I admire that you can see enough positives in that. I don't personally put much credence into the fact that we gave Liverpool a game both because we regularly raise our game against the better sides but still lose and because it felt very much like Liverpool played most of that game in 1st gear and just did enough to win it. If they had treated us like they treated Madrid or City, they would have absolutely pummelled us imo.
Yeah it's not impossible but neither is me winning the lottery tonight. Both are extremely unlikely though. Even reaching 30 would require us to achieve a point per game starting tonight when we're achieving less than half of that currently. It'd be the biggest turnaround seen since the Inception of the PL and would require one of two things happening; Russell suddenly learning to coach a defence of us suddenly scoring much more goals than we are. Yeah we played well in the second half on Friday night but we could also have easily been 4 down at HT.
