Pardew has never said Santon can't handle the PL, but in his informed position, working with the players every day and seeing their strengths and weaknesses, he decided Perch was a better option at CB today than anyone else given the circumstances. As far as I'm concerned, I'm happy for him to make that decision, and I have to say I can't imagine Santon would have done better than Perch today (though we'll never know.

Because Perch actually played well, I think we should instead be praising Pardew's decision to go against what the fans may want and stick with Perch as he definitely performed well. For some reason you have decided Santon would have ruled the game and we would have won if he'd come on instead of Perch or something.

If we ever play Danny Simpson at CB again we're definitely ****ed. Didn't work in the Championship ffs.

I don't share your opinion on it but I respect your opinion. The fact is Santon will only learn through playing and the next few games are the perfect chance. We are looking at a defensive crisis so we might end up with both Perch and Santon on the pitch. I wouldn't doubt Pardews choice if he didn't play Harewood over Tevez and Reo Cocker over Mascherano for nearly an entire season.

I would bring Santon into the frame definitely but to replace Ryan Taylor, he tries so very hard but when all is said and done hes just not a very good left back, good cover across the pitch though and I'm very happy to see him stay and cover LB, RB, and RW, not central midfield though.

The sooner Williamson gets back the better.

No disrespect to Norwich, Swansea, West Brom and Bolton, but these are teams we should be looking to take points from each game and playing Perch wont be the end of the world and it would be a good time to get Santon into the fold also and after that hopefully Williamson will be ready and Ashley will put his hand in his pocket strengthen further in January.

Agreed. It was a double whammy of depression today when Colo had to be replaced by Perch, but I actually thought he did really well. My only concern is that I don't think he has the foresight to read the game like Colo, or the build of Saylor. He reacted well to the situations around him, but didn't really seem to be seeing the next phase of play like Colo does. And having seen him in the flesh today, he does look worryingly small for a CB who isn't a reader/ball-player. Decent makeshift cover, but I worry about him having an extended run in the team.

I'm starting to think what ever we do were ****ed defensively because he's bound to go with Perch and lord only knows at CB rather than give Santon a game.

No he doesn't, the guy's a beast. What he lacks in height, he makes up for in strength and determination. We wouldn't call him the Verminator if he shat his pants every game against a big CF.

And I agree about Vermaelen. He is quality, without RvP and him, Arsenal would be nowhere.

WHAT THE **** DO YOU KNOW ABOUT SANTON ?

He played well several times in a different league. He then had a run of form which saw him transfer listed. Alan Pardew sees him every day and thinks he's not ready,

On exactly what body of information do you base your opinion that pardew is wrong ?
