I said to my mate the second Hughes and their 12 got booked for the little scrap we needed an Ashbee type to go to their 12 in his face and say 'me next you pussy' keep firing at him. He was a red card waiting to happen.
All these South American midfielders. You just need two crap houses in midfield like Morsley, Brownhill, Mowatt etc. not rocket science. The number of games doesn’t allow you to play nice attacking possession based football unless your players are step above.
You should have insisted on working from home, 4 day week sat in front of the telly in your favorite arm chair.
Not sure he was an idiot, can see why he made the choice, but probably wrongly advised, unlucky and maybe naive. Curtis Davis confirming what we all suspected (some a lot earlier than others tbf)
agreed, score lines aside we pretty much outplayed Luton, derby, Pompey, Oxford, 3 of them away, with these players and an incompetent of a manager. it shouldn't take much to steer these to safety.
The sacking of Rosie was pivotal for me - the last day of season we had a buzz, ok we didn’t make the playoffs but there was a definite “onwards and upwards” feeling looking forward to the next season. We had an owner who liked football, was investing, rebuilding the relationship between club and fans. A manager who was both a former player and someone with local connections who had a positive relationship with fans and always acknowledged us post match, home and away. Yes there were definite area for improvement on the pitch - we were playing (or trying to play) pretty football which was nice to watch in the patches it worked but was easy for opponents to read and counter. But even with that we still made seventh in the league and Liam is obviously a clever lad still learning so I was very happy with the prospects for this season. his sacking was a real WTAF? moment and to be perfectly honest I’m still going wtf every match. I can only conclude there was some kind of butting of heads going on behind the scenes between Acun and Liam. Liam’s last match was the polar opposite to Tim’s in terms of performance and atmosphere and yet he got the same outcome, I don’t get it. i was always cautiously optimistic when Acun bought us, but wary that he seemed to be a cut price Musk type character ie clever and rich but always looking for his next project. He’s by no means the worst owner, but he appears to be a bit reactive and impetuous. It makes for interesting times, but isn’t necessarily a good foundation for a stable, long term plan to get us back to the PL.
Reminds me of what Roy Keane said a while back. If he felt he or Man Utd were having a poor game, he’d smash into someone to make him feel better. He’s a bit of a prick is Roy but sometimes clattering someone and getting into it with an opposition player like Hughes did with Ugbo gees up the crowd and their teammates. Longman clattered someone as well when pressing and it was a good, clean tackle. It’s a Yorkshire derby for ****’s sake. Hughes and Longman seemed to be the only ones for us who read the memo and Palmer, whilst not involved in the physical side that much, at least seemed up for the technical side of the game. This is why Coyle, Jones and Slater pissed me off so much because they fully bottled both the physical and technical side of the game. Our ‘long serving players’ each with 150+ appearances and they cacked it.
Junior's just been added to the Famous Birthdays website, fame at last. Mentioning 'Junior' almost always gets a response.
Acun is in the same bracket as Watford’s odd owners. Impulsive and meddling. Somehow, Watford are currently less of a basket case as they seem to be showing faith in Tom Cleverley and he’s doing well.
100% mate. I always remember when I was at Featherstone Rovers and we were away at Sheffield in the play offs. We did not stand a chance, they were far better than us across the field. Just before it was time to walk out Iestyn Harris told all the coaching staff to leave the dressing room. Never seen that before in my life but we all walked out. As the kick off was about to take place I asked a sub what he had said when we left and his reply was 'watch what happens now'. Right from the kick off he kicked to their Hooker who was a well known hot head, chased the kick and gave his balls the biggest twist ever in the tackle. Huge fight happened, the hooker leathered Iestyn and was sin binned. Fights kept starting all game and ended up with 4 off the field I think at one point. We won that game something like 30 points to 6, a big shock. It was the start of Darryl Powells regin and we won several Grand Finals in years to come. For several seasons now we have not had anyone on the field at City with a bit of **** in them. We are far too nice of a team. I'm not saying we need to be grabbing peoples balls all the time but as I said with the incident on Tuesday it was a great time to get in that big donkeys face and keep giving him it. Call his missus, tell him he is a fanny, anything to keep distracting him and wait for the fireworks. Roy Keane was the master at it. Our crowd would have lifted on Tuesday and there would have been the atmosphere the players, Acun and Tim have craved for ages.
