day 1 of the first test australia v india in perth 217 runs 17 wickets india 150 australia 67/7 only 3 ducks so far. smith went first ball but labuschagne sored 2 off 52(!). best for aus so far 19no, three india players passed that with 26, 37, 41. bumrah has taken 4 for 17.hazlewood took 4 for 29 for aus.
india wrapped up the australia innings for 104. the final aus pair added 25 runs, making it their biggest partnership of the innings by 10 clear runs. perhaps that was a hint about a change in conditions. the first indian pair have put on 84 so far.
India declare on 487-6, setting Australia 534 to win and a tricky 30 minute period to bat at the end of Day 3. Aus close the day on 12-3. Are they England in disguise?
bit of a one-sided 50-over game between zimbabwe and pakistan. it only lasted 50 overs and 5 balls. zimbabwe were all out for 145 off 32.3 overs. pakistan took 18.2 overs to score 148 without loss at a rate of 8.07 runs per over. saim ayub clubbed 113 off 62 deliveries including 86 in boundaries. i only posted this because i wanted to mention that zimbabwe's opener/wicket keeper goes under the splendid name of joylord gumbie.
First vs NZ starts 10pm. I've a pal over there on a long holiday, he got a 5-day ticket for £70! Lucky to get 1 day vs AFG for that over here!
in a syed mushtaq ali trophy group b game t20 in india yesterday, tripura scored 155/8. in return, gujarat started with a 150 partnership, losing one opener for 38 off 24. the other opener, urvil patel, scored a few more, reaching a century from 28 deliveries, the second faster ever in men's t20. he ended 113 not out off 35, with gujarat's 156/2 off only 10.2 overs winnings them the game.
I heard the average 1st innings score on that ground is around 280-290, so advantage NZ on that measure. Early days though.
Sri Lanka skittled for 42 vs. SA. Second shortest innings ever in terms of balls bowled in an all out innings
england's reply not going well. they put the new kid in at 3 instead of root. new kid gets 10 and root gets none.
Things did improve.....I went to bed about 11 predicting 250 all out....if NZ could catch then I don't think I'd have been far off! Woakes, again, looks utterly talentless away from home in what are prob the closest to English conditions you get, really is baffling how someone so obv talented can be so night and day home and away
as things stand at the moment, only one batsman has a higher average in away tests than harry brook. and we all know who. brook's away average is around 93. also brook is the second fastest england player to reach 2000 runs by number of innings. he's managed it in his 36th innings (this one; when he reached 69). only herbert sutcliffe (another yorkshire player of course) did it in fewer. brook is joint 8th fastest overall. brook now has seven centuries from 36 innings. it puts him in the top few for hundreds per innings at slightly over one in five. if i find where i saw it i'll post more details.
nz effectlvely 4 for 6. lost wickets 4 and 5 off consecutive deliveries, kane williamson was 4th. this might not last till lunch tomorrow.
it lasted a bit longer than it might have done, but england wrapped it up easily enough with 104/2 off just 12.4 overs. new kid bethell took his average to 60 and carse ended with ten for 106.
elsewhere, south africa won after sri lanka's miserable 1st innings 42. from some research i did a few months back, and hoping i've remembered it correctly, sri lanka were the only test team that hadn't been skittled for less than 50, their previous worst being in the early 70s. saf 191 (bavuma 70) sri 42 (jansen 6.5/1/13/7) saf 366/5dec (bavuma 113, stubbs 122) sri 282 (chandimal 83, de sivla 59, jansen 4/73) saf won by 233 runs so 11/86 for jansen.
