Hard to believe we are already on to Pertemps Qualifier #6 of the season at Market Rasen today. Alan King's Harbour Lake has already qualified for the final having won the Aintree qualifier and I can't imagine they would want to jeopardise his current mark of 135 if they were to aim him at the final. Willaston has also qualified for the final having finished 4th at Aintree and despite having a 6lbs pull with Harbour Lake it is difficult to see him reversing the form. Bold Endeavour is a regular in these races but his mark is still high and he was only 7th at Aintree on his first run after leaving Seven Barrows. Supreme Gift's mark remains challenging, but he does seem happier going right-handed so has possibilities. Idem finished 8th in the Cheltenham qualifier and will do well to qualify here off the same mark but the bottom 2 in the weights both look interesting. What A Johnny sports a first-time tongue tie and is open to improvement and CD winner Giovanni Change has dropped to a very attractive mark.
ran Spelt it wrong () but Culligran won it well at 10/3 SP by 7-lengths. Cool piece of riding by Adam Wedge for the John O'Shea yard.
Her first UR was a rather rare mistake. I believe she was running as usual, holding back for her moment, and jumping well enough as usual, I don't think she would have come last at all. Anyway, moving from Hunters Chases to Listed races is a significant step forward. Of course, she will continue to be my avatar. What she did in March, and especially how she did it, is indelible to me.
