Wise words. No point in using all the energy on this match, we’ll need plenty more for the next match!!
Saints are such an enigma. If only we could lose the school boy errors we would be good enough to survive. I'm not sure I can blame the manager for that result. Just terrible individual mistakes.
TP could be a cult hero by now if had been given a decent run of games, he makes a mockery of fans that said he couldn't play with his feet.
The first goal was an error caused by Russell's instructions to play the ball short, it wasn't the only error created the same way either.
Loved that moment, once he had completed the pass. At the time I was screaming “Just get rid of the ****ing ball”.
To watch Tyler run directly at the defence centrally is so exciting and TP's close control makes him a natural target man, probably our first since Pelle... Loved SRL say that he was there to support us!...
Just watched the highlights, looking for reasons to be cheerful - the second goal is it for me; lightning fast counter attack, pinpoint accurate passing, Armstrong almost getting it trapped under his feet which consequently drew three defenders over, and a calm finish from Fernandes. My hope, most likely in vain, is that RM has that sequence on repeat in the tactics room.
Sadly that goal is pretty much against everything that Martin stands for: direct, counter attacking play. Like LTL said, it seemed like the players were being instinctive rather than following instructions.
Only to tell them to slow it down & make sure AA can control it nicer! As Ramus A said, it’s not about the league position; it’s not about scoring, it’s the bigger than that (or something like that).
I'm with you there. There were a few times on sunday when he gave the ball away cheaply or dithered about making the obvious pass out to the wing
For such a tall player he has amazing quick feet and close ball control. Saying that he'll probably mess it up next time
If he’s not injured he should be If he’s fit he should be one of the first names on the team sheet with Archer alongside. We’re not relegated yet and there are plenty of games to change this season, BUT if RM remains on his mantra for the next couple of games and stupid goals are given away again, for me it’s beyond the last chance saloon for him. I’d really like to see us do the business at Brighton and even though the tea leaves look bad for us, being a long Saints fan I have this (stupid, I know!) grain of hope, still!
I remember just how many people also decried Peter Crouch but he too had a lovely first touch and close control.
RM won’t play front two, so what you’re asking just won’t happen. His philosophy & set-up demands one up front & two wide.
