10 defeats from 12 and he’s still stubbornly digging his heels in. I’ve not fact checked his three and half minute claim, but it really wouldn’t surprise me that he would start the stop watch himself to try and prove his rather odd point. I like aspects of the football we play, I give him credit for that 2nd goal against Liverpool, because many players in Fraser’s situation would have just punted it away at that point instead of looking for a pass. This is that mentality he wants working at its best, but sadly that’s the outlier. I had hoped during the last couple of months that he would publicly stay stubborn about the style, but we would see a little bit of pragmatism in games like we did during the play offs, but the suicide football at the back continues uninhibited. Brighton ended it for Ralph and I can see a similar situation on Friday.
I'd take that at this point. We're already relegated anyway and if there's no one suitable to come in now there's no point wasting money on a half option when it won't make a material difference to out season. Gives us plenty of time to work on getting a manager in for next season.
I assume as we've meekly surrendered our PL status and allowed ourselves to be all but officially relegated after just 12 games, that SR have accepted that we are down now (thanks to their apathy and ineptitude) and there's no point in wasting money sacking him until the end of the season. An incoming manager might be able to improve things from this point but we are 99.9% down so it's probably not worth wasting the money and/or tarnishing a new manager with a struggling team in a doomed season. The only way I can really see that changing now is if the crowd gets really toxic. Then it's probably only worth bringing in an interim manager until the end of the season. Then SR need to be transparent with the fans that they have ****ed it up, but will be bringing in a strong candidate at the end of the season to bring us back up and make an actual attempt at staying up next time. I'm just praying they are not thick enough to stick with Martin next season too because he 'got us up' last time. What's the ****ing point in that!? If we did get promoted under his management again, we'd have to sack him anyway as we know he can't do it in the PL with inferior players to the majority of other teams. Might as well try and get some momentum from a promotion season under a new manager who hopefully will make more of a fist of this.
Exactly. If he’s stubbornly refusing to adapt after the worst PL start in history then he doesn’t deserve a second chance in the PL. That’s even if he were to get us promoted.
There's no chance he sees out the season imo. I doubt he'll make Christmas unless we start getting some unlikely wins.
Yeah I think the shift in the fanbase is starting too early for him to be able to see out the season. The question is who they get as his replacement for all the reasons already discussed. TBH I think the best option now is he somehow gets a couple of results in the games leading up to Xmas so he can hold on to the job until Feb/March when it is easier to appoint an interim to see out the season than it would be now
When Ralph went/was going, I was always 'pro Ralph' as one of my favourite expressions is 'Be careful what you wish for'. I was to some extent correct - Ralph may not have kept us up as he was tired and worn out, but we would have had a better chance than under NJ & RS. In this instance my expression doesn't matter. We are down, we are crap, we are predictable, we are boring. I would honestly take NJ back for the laughs.
Seems like there's a pretty good concensus on RM out. Maybe its Trauma but I'm more worried about next season and how we will go with the next recruit should he go. Ancient history but he did get promoted at first crack and @Os saying he's not a good manager because he did it thru playoffs is truly the worst kind of revisionism. If there were no other good teams in the champ then sure, but there were and there will be again. If we start hearing about a name manager wanting the job I would jump ship but for now, I'll stick with RM and see if he can find some equally entertaining football as he did on sat but without the brain farts.
Caretaker manager would surely be Calderwood. He's SR's man, not Russ', and he's managed/asst. managed at tons of clubs before.
I was happy to stick with him in the summer and the early stages of this season, IF he showed signs that he was learning from our failures and willing to adapt. But he just isn't. I sort of forgive him for our lack of attacking threat as I think we just don't have the quality going forward. But I can't forgive him for the constant defensive lapses we keep having game after game. For me all three goals on Saturday were the fault of our playing style. He's a good coach, but a crap manager.
I think that his biggest failing is his stubborness, he nailed his colours to the mast with his uncompromising insistance on playing it short from the back despite the regular costly cock ups and also with certain favourite players like Jack having to play and Manning and Wee Man not in their natural positions.
Yeah, he got his coaching badges ten years ago when he was with us. He's only played twice this season for Casa Pia so is winding his career down.
I’m not revisionist, I didn’t rate him when he first came. I still don’t now. I said that he earned the right to give the PL a crack with his win at Wembley. But he still showed a lot of errors last season imo. I do think we could have done even better last season with another manager. I don’t want to take anything away from him as he definitely deserves some credit for getting us up, but not the way he keeps making out to the media like we were some record breaking team. We were a bang average championship side that got pretty lucky in the playoff final. That’s the reality. Not some record breaking possession based heroes. He keeps repeating that in MOTD because he wants his stock to rise. He is trying to do what Kompany did. And it’s a load of bollocks. In reality, he is lucky to have us and not the other way around.
