Problem is, every time we go ahead, we somehow contrive to lose anyway. Very hard to cheer anything when you know you will inevitably lose the game. Feels like a complete waste of time supporting this club under Martin
But they are told to play out from the back like that. It's on Martin for getting players to do something they clearly both uncomfortable and unsuited to doing
Surprised we always allow the away side to play 2nd half towards their fans. We’re never (rarely) going to be in the ascendancy 2nd half, so why play that way? Mix it up at least. Yeah, I know, a nothing comment / observation vs what we’re up against but ….
Where's all the 'Russ out' songs? Nathan Jones got a load of sh*t but Russ gets nothing. It's just absolutely dead.
Why the facepalm? Anyhow, the manager tells us to play in a way in which causes issues for us. Mistakes happen due to the ridiculous manner in which we are asked to play. The manager is the person instructing us to play in this manner. So, if the skill sets of the players mean we make mistakes playing this way, and we cant afford the types of players in which it may work better, and the manager is the person who makes us play this way, when there are literally so many other effective ways to play, then who do you think is at fault? I'd wager it is down on manager. I'm sure to most people they would largely agree that 4 points from so many games is a pathetic return, and that he should have been sacked long ago. I'm at the point now where I don't see what the point in sacking him is, I wonder if they will save the money and sack him when we start poorly next season in the championship. That way, they have mitigated a year of having additional salaries for Martin and his weak as piss backfill room staff.
Maybe then all of US need to cheer, shout, vocally support the team during the game. Do you? (Not part aimed at you) but all of you? Regardless of where you sit / stand in the game it’s surely your shout. It’s not any particular responsibility of just one part of the ground. Maybe the Chapple, Kingsland, Itchen should bark up.
The really mental thing is that there were literally loads of us on this very forum who last season called that playing this way in the PL would be an utter disaster. The fact that a bunch of randomers on the internet could see what's coming but Martin or nobody at the club could speaks volumes about how we are run.
What’s the difference between pressure & set up? It’s the same. RM sets us up to play that way with players who don’t have that ability (for 90mins). It’s ****ing absurd to think it’ll finally work.
Can only speak for myself but I always do and am someone who tries to start songs too. Luckily I'm not arsed in the slightest if I look/sound like a right **** and don't worry about nobody joining in. I eventually gave up today though. That said I don't join in the 5th rendition of a Pompey song in the 8th minute. We spend far too much time singing about them lot. For me the singing is probably the best part about going to the game, especially when your team is ****. If all football matches were played in silence then I wouldn't go.
I think the he way he adapted in the playoffs conned a few people into thinking he wasn’t wedded to one style of playing. Turns out he is and it won’t work with this team. The question is whether the board think it will ever work with him. Some of the best managers have been complimentary about him and his style so I don’t know if this is making the owners think that keeping him is a good idea long term as he is a promising manager, he just needs more time/different players to be successful. Ultimately they aren’t football people so if they are seeing Pep and Slot talking about how great they think Martin is (and previously Wilcox) they might be thinking to listen to them rather than making what they think is a rash decision
It’s a catch 22 really, yes we scored two goals and got into a position that I never thought we’d be in today however the downsides to our team right now are so blatantly obvious, the managers choices so appalling and our overwhelming ability to shoot ourselves in the foot make it so hard to cheer whenever things start going badly. Let’s not act like this is the first time we’ve been in this position and the fans are stopping support at the first sign of failure. We’ve had some absolutely shocking performances this season that the fans have got behind. Proper bottom of the barrel stuff. And the last game may have been the worst of the lot to the point that many people assumed Martin had his last game. So then fast forward two weeks later and somehow our manager, in that 2 weeks, has decided that out of the 4 fullbacks that Ryan ****ing Fraser is the answer to Salah and the other 3 fullback go on the bench? And the game starts and the same bullshit passes round the back happen which leads to a goal. What is there to cheer? I don’t believe in blind optimism and celebrating everything, if the team is **** I think fans should absolutely reflect that too. The atmosphere kicked up a level at 2-1 but then AGAIN due to a mistake by our own making we’re 2-2 again. It’s very hard at this point in the season, having witnessed the exact same mistakes relentlessly and the same football without any improvement, to get behind the team when they make mistakes as stupid as they did today. We lost this game because of incompetence from the players and manager and it’s incompetence any fan who has watched any game this season could have told you would happen. Yet the 1 person in charge of making these decisions can’t help but decide **** it, whether it’s Dagenham and Redbridge or Liverpool, we’re gonna play the exact same way.
The only thing you need to know about Rasmus and why he's so clueless about football matters is that he believes the league table is irrelevant.
Yeah exactly, but I do wonder if they have learnt that. As I say lots of people within football have been complimenting Martin throughout the season, so it wouldn’t surprise me if that is the reason he is still in the job. We don’t have a football person in place who can make the football decisions so I think they are waiting to get someone in/some sort of advice before making a change. They clearly are very mindful of doing the same as last time we were relegated
