Maybe we shouldn't be crossing from wide so many times then ... especially when teams like Luton dwarf us and are physically stronger? Maybe we should play into central midfield and central attack more often to mix it up? Maybe the routines he's training into them aren't working to their strengths and aren't working full stop. Maybe we shouldn't try playing ourselves into trouble so much? Maybe he should switch it around a bit more during a game (wingers to swap wings, subs that aren't like for like, fresh legs earlier, whatever). Maybe it's incredibly naive to have no-one hanging back to stop break aways. Maybe the defensive marking drills need improving. Maybe we need more creative, effective set plays. Maybe the players are more confused, or at least struggling with the instructions, than they should be. Etc etc. All at the feet of Walter. Actually, no maybes about it. It ISN'T working and from what we've seen of opposition teams the squad really isn't the worst in the division.
Similar thoughts mate. Not properly replacing the amount of talent we lost last season was always going to be a gamble. UTT.
Tbh we could have last seasons squad this season and I bet we'd be 20 points worse off playing under these instructions and tactics, he has confused the fk out of them, and as a result they've lost their confidence.
That's the way we play , not sure what advantage you're supposed to gain by never using the centre of midfield I wonder why no other teams play like that ?
I had the feeling you wasn’t at the game because if you had been you would have known the players were backed throughout.
Too slow to get the ball forward, I’m not saying launch it to the striker, but it would change up the millionth pass between defence & keeper. Crosses, do we not practice them, too deep or cut out early..I think we’re secretly vampires. Shooting, a couple on target, 1 up front & no support, continuously.. I seriously don’t know what to make of it. Anyway, it’s Acun’s toy, he can take the flack when we’re relegated & stuck in League One for a few years.
Tim Walter says he’s not concerned that Hull City have dropped into the bottom three for the second time this season after losing 1-0 to Luton Town at Kenilworth Road on Saturday afternoon as the Tigers succumbed to their third successive defeat. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0k6jngw Mike White talking to Tim Walter after the match
Its not the crossing per se.... its where the crosses are coming from... Coyle seems to have lost the ability to overlap, drameh cant do it because his other leg is for standing on and Giles was bought to do exactly that and is sat on his arse... (likely because his attitude stinks and that is perhaps part of the problem, people not wanting to be here)
Very en vogue to hammer players ATM....so....wondering what exactly Hughes needs to do to come in for criticism? Don't think he played badly overall today, and I personally think he's one of our best players ATM, he's defo added a lot to us on the ball at the back but he was prob at fault for the only goal of the game, if that's Macca, Giles or Drameh flicking that header on they'd get slagged to death on here
I’m still hesitant with this line of thinking. Back to basics with what exactly? The build-up itself isn’t the main issue. We do seem to be able to beat the press and link up well during the initial stages of possession. I don’t see how it’s up to Walter, or any manager for that matter, to get strikers to hit the target when it’s put on a platter for them, stop making schoolboy defensive mistakes, make a cross that beats the first man etc. I always go back to when Arveladze was having us conceding 2 or 3 goals a game due to stupid mistakes before he got sacked, then Dawson was interim and then Rosenior took over. Rosenior significantly improved us defensively compared to Shota when he took over. However, it wasn’t so much Rosenior’s defensive philosophy that improved our defensive record and goals against but a personnel change. He took out the calamitous Figueiredo and played a back four of Coyle - Jones - McLoughlin - Greaves, with Coyle playing more as a wingback and Greaves tucking in as another centre-back in possession. Sometimes, to tighten up at the back or improve attacking outlet, it just requires a change of personnel and a fresh set of eyes on things.
That's the kind of gap I mentioned earlier. Pandur had the ball and Puerta was pretty wide out and could have stepped in a few steps, and found himself in a 15 yard pocket, 25 yards further forward, but he didn't show for the ball. When we have the ball in defence, 2 of our CM are generally non-existent. I really don't understand it.
Hint...You're not far away. Have a listen, but before you do,nip round the nearest Shell station with a fuel can,buy a litre of unleaded and a box of matches...You'll feel the need to combust half way through it,try and resist!!!
