Lots of skepticism about this event last year, but the track and race itself turned out to be quite good, so I’m looking forward to it this year. Ferrari to win I think, but hopefully Max wraps up the championship (only because I feel Qatar and Abu Dhabi are a bit soulless / corporate and it feels inappropriate at those locations)
I’ve had a complicated couple of weeks, didn’t read your post properly and have also just realised it’s next week. So in good news you caught one and I’ve just had an embarrassing exchange where I asked “why aren’t you in Vegas?” but in bad news I’m disappointed I have to wait a week for something I got hyped for!
Just watching Lewis’s onboard for his his fastest lap in practice, why does did track look even narrower than Saudi?
It’s a weird event this. Freezing cold temps. In an old desert. <laugh-> Merc might be genuine here- they were strong in Canada in similar low grip low temps conditions.
Cold temps have been good for Merc and bad for Ferrari! Sounds Like Red Bull have too high a downforce package and can't get the right one in time for quali.
Well . As the poll was closed before I was ready to vote , I will post who I think is going to win the race AFTER the race
Another interesting grid, fantastic performance from Pierre, but I wonder if he’ll have any chance of keeping the faster cars behind tomorrow. I also didn’t vote although I did say Ferrari when I was a week early, would probably have gone Leclerc over Sainz, so I’m off to a bad start from that perspective…
Silly point but Charles's overalls look like they are 10 years old - so washed out and faded! Weird, even after the races they always look relatively smart, no idea what Ferrari are doing. I know there are budget caps but surely a new pair of overalls for press duties can't be too expensive?
Well ched if you weren’t awake @ 05:59 to switch the voting off . IMHO that shows a clear lack of dedication Seriously I was just joking , I’m just grateful you do the threads
. To be fair, when creating a poll I have to put in how many hours before it ends. So no idea how I managed to get that so wrong Only just watched the quali highlights .
Well, that title fizzled out after some hope for a scrap Gratz to Max. truly the class of the field atm.
Special overalls for this race. They’re meant to look like the are sand blasted. Instead they just look ****.
First half of the race was great, second half not so much. Perfectly controlled race from Merc and George, looking at Hamilton’s pace and the fact that he had to come through the field, that’s probably one of the biggest margins we’ve seen all season between the cars. Verstappen winning his fourth world Championship, finishing in fifth place with a rear wing redesigned at the track with an angle grinder, rather sums how he’s won this Championship and I love the fact that he’s already turned his attention to 2025! The AWS strategy insight, that Carlos would have finished second had they stopped when he first called it, didn’t feel right, but they’re operating with a lot more data than me. If true, it highlights once again that he’s certainly one of the most, if not the most intelligent driver when he’s in the car. It will be interesting to see if that’s something he can make use of towards the rear of the grid and what effect losing that has on Ferarri’s historically volatile in race management. Worst race for McLaren for a while, with lots of suggestions that their banned rear wing is the cause - an interesting insight into how vital the political game can be especially in this cost cap era. Still lots happening further back too with the battle for 6th going to the wire between three teams - Gasly’s retirement today was incredibly harsh for him, but could also prove very costly.
It's a shame the FIA didn't catch on to RBRs asymmetrical charging earlier, this could've been an amazing season.
It was cold that late in Vegas and that impacted the tyres. Merc seemed to benefit from that, not sure the impact is known re other teams, e.g. Mclaren.
