OK brain drain then why did they take hostages, as taking hostages is to stop retaliation, who says worldwide only you, they have had a good few tries to eradicate Jews and failed 1948–49, 1956, 1967, 1973, 1982, 2006, and 2023–present and then perhaps they wanted Syria Jordan Iraq Iran Yemen and all the other mad dog countries to join in, but they didn't ,they won't even take refugees Jordan did however then kicked them out , they then went to Lebanon fought with the Christians there before kicking them out, and are now terrorising from the North tunnels rockets using western donations sound familiar

There won’t be peace there while there’s a Jew breathing and they’d only turn on each other if there wasn’t.

There won’t be peace here because the cult of Palestinianism relies on stoking hate and dragging in gullible people who need a cause.

And that’s fine. It’s how it is. The clock can’t be turned back and people can’t be un-brainwashed.

Depends how you define peace tbh. We’re not exactly a peaceful species, but there are moments of peace, moments of just about tolerable levels of violence, and moments of absolute ****ing carnage. The latter are best avoided, and it’s the job of all reasonable leaders to find a way out of them. Reasonable leaders are thin on the ground though, now as ever.

Well here's what I think Wodge ... and it is just my thoughts, I'd emphasise ...

I think that 'Hamas' were under no illusion that Israeli retribution / retaliation would be be both extreme and devastating - but being fanatics that was something they factored into their plans - and overall objectives... but the extent of the destruction to Gaza is beyond their expectations - the taking of hostages was not designed to stop Israeli retaliation - they knew Netanyahu would not have hostage recovery at the top of his priorities... nevertheless they would serve a multiple purposes...

    1) It would mean the Israelis couldn't go quite as gung ho with their air strikes etc ... for fear of killing their own...

    2) They 'might' become useful bargaining chips in an eventual negotiated peace / ceasefire deal...

    3) Whilst still held, their existence would create internal pressure on the Israeli war machine from the families of the hostages and less warlike Israelis ...

As to the overall objective - I suspect it was partly to get the world to take a much greater interest in the 'Palestinian situation' - not just in Gaza but in terms of the illegal (under International Law) occupation and settlements in Palestinian lands in East Jerusalem and the West Bank - I guess you could argue that this has been acheived - the UN has since stated that the Palestinian situation as a whole, not just Gaza, will need to be included in the final 'peace' settlement... but what a terrible price to pay... over 30,000 women and children can never be justified ... by either side.

I think the Palestinian cult thing is overplayed, yeah people wave flags and get all shouty but that doesn't indicate the strength within a nation. Millions of people remain silent, millions of people refrain to avoid getting into political arguments, millions of people support Israel. It is as you described a cult and nothing more. I think since all this kicked off, I've only seen one residence where it showed palentinian support, and even that has long gone. It's easy on here to get sucked into thinking otherwise.

I'm trying to think of a reasonable leader that the world has at the moment, nope can't think of one, they all have agendas interested in their own ideologies of what freedom means.

I got no beef with Keir, at least he's more professional and is actually trying to make friends within Europe. I still got no time for the EU, so if Keir can make things happen for the benefit of this country without mentioning the dreaded B word, then I'm behind him with my support. Yeah he's pissed off the farmers and the pensioners but that's part and parcel of politics, you can't please all the people all of the time and afterall it makes for good bantz on here.

I think someone you don't like is best ignored, too much hate in politics and politicians have died as a result. Hate creates devision and that devision often has a habit of biting you on the arse.

I'd hope the current conflict serves as a final reminder to the world that the absence of violence is not the same as peace.

Absence of violence is all there has even been in the region in fits and starts since more or less the collapse of Oslo, and even that lasted only a few months before a combination of Baruch Goldstein and Hamas totally derailed it.

I do see an awful lot of virtue signalling in the movement. Loads of people who simply march with and wave the flags of the de jour campaign in order to give the impression of being righteous and noble. Meanwhile in reality they know very little about and do even less for Palestinians who actually need support.

I also think that the anti-Israel camp is very much influenced and perhaps defined by the general post-imperial anti-colonial sentiment currently sweeping through much of the West, in the sense that it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if the people who graffitied Churchill's statue are also regular attendees of pro-Palestinian rallies, not so much because they want to build a Palestinian state but because they want to tear down the West.

Think I was just brain washed by my mum to always support the Jews.

    It's bloody hard sometimes.

The ICC's ruling did not find against Netanyahu or Gallant on any count of genocide.

Can we drop that accusation now?

My granddad was an old school socialist and trade unionist, hated fascism and anti Semitism. He said to my mum when Israel was created after WWII, “the world will regret that.”
