Yes totally agree about Donny but as it’s shut at the min for me where I live lba is a piece of piss to get to providing the A1079 doesn’t have any issues, absolute nightmare if it does. Being a dump doesn’t bother me, I’m not in it long enough to matter..
That award goes to Bristol apparently. Looking forward to Doncaster/ Sheffield/ Finningley/Robin Hood / South Yor airport reopening. Will make an effort to support it even if there are options that are a bit cheaper elsewhere (although higher holiday / flight cost will likely be offset by shorter journey, less need to stay over, etc). Absolute joke that it was allowed to close in the 1st place.
Best UK airports according to Which... Liverpool (John Lennon) 81% London City 80% Norwich 78% Exeter 77% Southampton 75% Bournemouth 72% Newcastle 72% Cardiff 71% Inverness 70% East Midlands 67% Belfast City (George Best) 63% Glasgow International 62% Leeds Bradford 58% London Heathrow Terminal 5 58% Edinburgh 57% Aberdeen 56% London Gatwick North Terminal 56% London Heathrow Terminal 2 56% Birmingham 55% London Gatwick South Terminal 55% London Heathrow Terminal 3 54% Bristol 53% London Heathrow Terminal 4 51% Manchester Terminal 2 51% London Stansted 50% London Luton 47% Belfast International 44% Manchester Terminal 1 40% Manchester Terminal 3 37%
It's nowhere near the worst of them, it's half the distance that 'London Luton' and 'London Stanstead' are from London. Though both are pretty much next door compared to Narita in Tokyo, which is actually 75km from central Tokyo.
Always supported Donny airport easy to get to and park .Their must have been a lot of demand when it closed for a local airport it will be good if it gets back up and running in 2026 as reported .If it had been down south the government would not have allowed the closure to happen .The local airport Humberside must have been able to pick up some of the slack ,mind they are fly twice weekly to Mallorca next year .
Why did Donny airport close? And why was it called Robin Hood airport? Not even close to Sherwood Forest. clowns
It closed because it was losing money and it was called Robin Hood because the original story of Robin Hood was set in Barnsdale Forest near Donny, not Sherwood Forest and they were trying to reclaim him.
Yeah, I got that wrong! It's won UK eco and sustainability awards but seems like it's gone backwards massively since 2018/19 in terms of best airport rankings!! Correlation or coincidence? Doncaster airport becomes loss making remains I believe a very moot point. The owners, Peel group, allegedly had a different agenda.
Rumour had it that they thought they'd get planning permission for housing and industrial use on the site, which was more profitable than the airport. The council made clear they'd turn them down. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Cheers. I Didn’t know that….& I suspect 99% of the punters didn’t know that….Humber gateway or South Yorkshire airport, many other better options avail…. But calling it Robin Hood was an awful choice
I’ve heard of a humberside airport but I’m sure it’s a myth as it’s fuxking impossible to ever fly from there
Just had four days in Kirkby Lonsdale, a beautiful English village. We took the opportunity to visit Gretna Green, where the staff told me that the day before Rover was there trying to get a discount because of repeat business. Later we visited Dumfries, where I asked a local about Queen of the South, he told me that Ric Glasgow is only there on a full moon Saturday. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
