I agree, however my daughter was literally getting bullied for not having certain apps that her friendship group were using. Thankfully she toughed it out and told them she isn't interested after we spoke to her about how dumb the content is on places like tik tok and Snapchat.

Bullying stopped, she made new friends and now has just Instagram which she barely posts on. Peer pressure is hard for many kids to resist.

So many people forget that the Internet has receipts for pretty much everything said or done.

What better way for the Australian Govt to impose digital ID on all its citizens on the pretext of protecting the under 16’s. Anyone who thinks this is a good idea wants their head examining.

Why's that? I'm all for ID, and I guess in today's world digital would make sense for most (at least as the default).

I've lived with digital ID where I live for 25 years now. Makes everything much easier and reliable... Selling a car, banking, ordering a passport, buying a house, paying tax, opening utilities accounts, reading doctors/health records, appointments, prescriptions, car insurance etc. Never been scammed or suffered ID theft as a result. Every citizen registered so virtually impossible to scam banks/credit cards/benefits (although scammable in different ways obviously).

When you move, it's all done centrally via the id, so there's no need to inform 20 different companies.

Never have to visit a bank in person or show paper identification, proof of address etc

One of the reasons why the internet became the dominant form of media in the 21st is because of anonymity.

But you're not anonymous, unless you live off-grid or using someone else's identity - you've got a NI number, you may be on the electoral register, you've got an inland revenue number, bank accounts where you've shown proof of identity and address, a birth certificate, a passport, numerous utility accounts which identify you, council tax, a phone account and IP address etc. A digital id and postbox effectively moves it behind a protected wall and stops someone from getting hold of any of it without your permission.. now done via an app or a codebrikke/like a mini calculator which generates a 6 digit code for those that don't use smartphones. Every time you buy something online you give an electronic thumbprint which identifies it as being from you, so fraud is far lower in countries which have it.

The chemical make up of your brain is quite different at 18 to 13. Much like people can't drink, vote or gamble until they're 18.

Who said anything about imposing digital IDs?

Are you aware of Medicare? Every Australian citizen already has a digital ID which records their date of birth.

The suggestion at this stage is for the social media platforms themselves to do the policing or risk fines.

But anything for a bit of 'big government' hysteria I suppose.

Keep taking the tablets squire. Or alternatively, wake up and use your mind more effectively.

    What a strange response.

Do you live in Australia? Otherwise I'd suggest your take on living conditions here is somewhat wide of the mark.

I do find it amusing that people screech so much about government tracking while posting on their iPhone without a jot of awareness.

Its a thing amongst some guys

They like to think they can just go underground at a moments notice and are always in full control

Its a bit of a male fantasy thing i think
Along side media like 1984, half life
    And other dystopian stuff

What I have seen so far is politically people with a left persuasion seem to be moving to Bluesky, and people with a right leaning are sticking with X. I just hope both platforms don't end up as echo chambers, as the town square needs to have debate from both sides.

Also, on football matters, I hope it doesn't end up splitting fans down the middle, as then you get less numbers and opinions to discuss matters.
