Although the song 'Superstition' from Stevie Wonder was more of a critique of the concept, here's hoping my match day thread can help create an unbeaten run. Arguably there's no other fixture in the Premier League calendar that says you've made it to the big league than hosting Manchester United. A juggernaut team of the 1990s and 2000s - their decline over the last decade is due to the departure of a successful manager, a lack of investment off and on the field from a distant owner, a squad that generally don't look interested, and a cycle of underwhelming managerial appointments. Sound familiar guys? Ruben Amorim arrives as the next hopeful messiah. This will be a match where two of the highest rated young managers in the sport pit their wits against each other. And of course the favourite will be Man United. Despite the jibe about relative lack of spending - this is an expensively assembled squad packed full of internationals and promising young players. Amorim may will bring a new manager bounce, particularly as Man United played some ruthless football under Ruud van Nistelrooy in the wake of ten Hag's sacking. Our win over Spurs was interrupted by another international break (thankfully the next one isn't until March time). But at least we had a fortnight where we could reflect on the win and believe we can compete at this level and stay up. Given his history there, you get the feeling McKenna's circled the Man United fixtures as the ones he'd most like to win going into the season. I'd expect a similar starting eleven that played against Spurs. I'd expect we've give them a go under the Portman Road lights in the prime-time Sky Sports slot. One hope we can cling onto is that Amorim hasn't had much time with the squad after the international break and had a delayed start to the job. If they show any signs of complacency or confusion about their new playing style, it could be fertile ground for us to spring an upset. Back to superstition, I've watched us play three times at Portman Road this season and they've all finished in draws. I'm at the ground again on Sunday, so let's keep the unbeaten run going. I'm predicting a feisty 2-2 draw.
Did the father play for Town?? Edit.A quick Google search reveals my memory is going (nothing new there!)Roy was the father (played for Ipswich)and his son was Gary!!
Gary was in the 1986 World Cup sticker book and it said hometown Ipswich so it always stuck in my mind!
Good evening you lot, thought I’d pop in to see how you all are, I know some will have missed me as it’s been a while. Internationals are ruining club football, I can’t stand these two week breaks, are you enjoying them or finding them annoying This is the game (along with Everton) where you’ll find every Leeds fan cheering you on, good luck, think you might need to score three to win but that’s doable
I couldnt agree more Ristac, these hectic schedules need sorting out. Many clubs lose their top players and they come back injured which can affect a team's performance over the critical Christmas period. Clubs need to lobby EUFA & FIFA. We are all excited by Sunday and I for one can remember Man U games 20 plus years ago. New manager bounce & atrocious weather may play a part. If Town get into their rhythm early and get an early goal to upset them, then we may see a surprise result. It will be mayhem at PR whatever!
