... but does it make the clubs any richer, certainly not the supporters. We've just seen our match at Burnley, which we hope will be vital, moved to a Friday night at 8pm. We also now have two home games, in the new year, at 12.30 on a Saturday. That means two Saturdays when the local pubs and businesses will lose out, people will have their usual routines disrupted and exiles with SCs will probably have to miss out. As Sunderland have many exiles these disruptions mean it's becoming less attractive to buy an SC, you don't have to miss many games to make it cheaper to buy tickets for individual games. Where does the money actually go, most likely to the agents and players who'll monitor TV deals letter by letter ... ... I suspect we're being taken for mugs but I doubt there's anything we can do. https://gamestate.substack.com/p/a-new-tv-deal-for-the-efl-is-it-worth
Said on a thread on the SMB that buying a season ticket makes no literal sense. You're paying in advance for 23 tickets but the matches could be played at any time so you've no idea if you can make them before you buy. It's crap for shift workers or people with other responsibilities that means they can't make kick offs when it's not 3pm on a Saturday.
I’d imagine families buying season tickets are taking a risk. Children have school to consider but also have more fixed activities than adults. They have clubs, sports, etc, which means Friday nights, weekend days and Monday nights are already arranged. We need children to become loyal to Sunderland and used to going to matches.
Yeah I agree Saturdays bt tradition were our football days now for sky it could be any day ot any time
Another example ( like Xmas in the shops in September) where the big boys justify their money making agenda by saying '' it's what the customer/consumer asked for'' . We all know that none of us did.
The school must think my lads teeth are rotten.....amount of times they have had dentist appointments..... bizarrely on a night game
The bairn came in upset as Leeds away has been moved to a Monday night. My first response was "what a shame when you have a doctors appointment that afternoon and will have to leave school early"
I've said it before,, money, greed, var, continual abuse of referees by players and managers, international breaks, influence of media re televised games, overanalysis of TV pundits microanalysing every split decision, and newcarsehole united mean it cannot be classed as the beautiful game anymore
It's still the beautiful game mate....our goals recently are testament to that.....but it's being disppointingly over-influenced by massive greed.
Agreed mate. As much as we can, I'd like to see us continue to buck the trend and keep as much soul in the club and the game as we can.
It's a case of reap what you sow with football unfortunately. The originators of the Football Association rules never intended to make money from it, it was to be a solely amateur game, and it was never even anticipated that it would be a spectator sport. As soon as the first spectator was asked to pay to watch and the first player asked to be paid to play, we started on this slippery slope.
Well,if the people who run the English game had been strong enough to say...no,all our matches will kick off at 3pm Saturday...you can have one match at 12.30pm on Saturday and one match at 2pm on Sunday, that would have laid the marker. However,I'm not so naive to think the Sky money wouldn't have gone elsewhere...to Germany,Spain,Italy or France and all the greedy bastards would have been lined up to sign all the best players to play there.
Happens everywhere. There have been protests in Italy over the last few years about kick off times changing for TV scheduling. There have been protests in Germany this year about outside investors putting money in to the DFB in order to get broadcast rights. In France in 2019 there was talk that kickoff times would be earlier in order to suit broadcasters in China. People think they can make money off football and generally succeed.
