I’m hoping Sheff United lose a couple of their better players, especially Hamer. Think there’ll be PL interest there
Can’t see them losing someone like Hamer and not replacing him unfortunately, they know they need to go back up.
I agree with nearly all of that, except for competition at LW. RW maybe because I don't know what to make of Poveda, but Tommy Watson is close to breaking through and already has admirers at a higher level than us, so I wouldn't want his pathway to the first team to be blocked.
…he’s been a really poor signing up to now. Hopefully gets fit and contributes but I’m not too confident that’ll be the case
We seem to like targeting players at clubs with financial difficulties, Mundle for example, so I would not be surprised if we went after some of Lyons players. Obviously not the top tier players but maybe we go back in for Orban or some of the top quality young players they have.
@PazzaSAFC TM has just revealed he received the news of his sacking from a phone call from KS saying KLD wanted a change, and told to come and collect his things the following Monday. He added this could’ve partially been due to not picking players he was told should be playing #SAFC @PazzaSAFC TM- “I’m not sure there is a better captain than Luke O’nien in this league” #SAFC @PazzaSAFC TM on the connection he had with the players- “At the time I lost my job, I had that team in the palm of my hand. We were going to win” #SAFC @PazzaSAFC TM says the signing of Mepham took his breath away and added “When I was there if he wasn’t an 18 year old from France we weren’t signing him” #SAFC
Seems a hint of bitterness from TM. The squad wasn’t performing for a long time. Also shows how the board have positively changed re the last comment
Agree with both points here, still love Tony and would have liked to have seen how we got on with a few Mepham type signings under him
Also don’t for a second believe he wasn’t playing someone they wanted him to. 1) it’s not their choice 2) who could that have been. Seems a lot of rubbish to me like
I like Mowbray. Top man and a good coach, we played some superb stuff under him in the 22/23 season. However, he comes out with some nonsense. The last few months under him were poor. All his fault? Absolutely not. But to come out with something like "I had that team in the palm of my hand. We were going to win" just isn't true. The performance down at Swansea against 10 men was as bad as anything under Beale or Dodds. The signing of Mepham is a result of the long term model working. I have no doubt that the sale of Clarke facilitated the signing of Mepham, his wages will be huge in comparison to our squad and would've been completely unaffordable without the sale of Clarke. Signing Mepham under Mowbray would've been financially irresponsible. The average age of our starting 11s is around the same as it has been for the last 2 seasons as well. We haven't suddenly signed 5 30 year olds, we are still signing, and playing, the "18 year old from France" type of player.
I dont blame him for anything he said tbf. 40k gates, we nearly got promoted under his first season and he had zero backing in his last season from our board. He made it public about needing experience players, a striker and investment and before we knew it he was sacked
I get that but don’t for a second believe KS picked the team or why he doesn’t realise why we can now sign better players of age
Yeah i agree with that too mate. I get why Mowbray would be frustrated though after taking us to a knife edge of promotion with an injury ravaged squad we done nothing that summer to replace Amad or show any kind of ambition going into his second season with us
Can understand that to. But also showed he had no real plan B game plan wise and relied on individual brilliance a lot
Mowbray had Batth didn't he? Not like an experienced CB was unheard of while he was there. We've just upgraded him in the meantime. I can imagine Speakman being in the coaches ear about certain players, he's the one who knows about contracts and clauses and future plans after all. Just speculation obviously but if that was/is the case Mowbray wouldn't have liked it.
Look at the bigger picture mate. What would you have done differently to what he did if you were manager in terms of team selections and the squad we had. Obviously we cant comment on what goes on on the training pitch
Weve got so much tied up investment right now in Bellingham,, Patto, Ballard, Rigg, Cirkin and Hume. I wont say Neil because im really not a fan of his at all. Selling one of these, and investing the money properly could take us to the next level
Same way we did with JC mowbray had Batth. We’ve got better and signed an improved batth in mepham. That’s how the model works
