Morning all. Strange ol racing week for me which culminates in hopefully some good racing at NH HQ. I cant imagine Cheltenham are overly chuffed with the turnout in the novice and graded chases with just 4 in each. Anyway the full range of racing emotions this week for me starting with a horrendous fatal fall of one I’ve followed at Fos Llas on Sunday. The rather underwhelmingly named Roger was the horse. I stumbled across this one via an entertaining podcast last year year where connections explained they’d acquired Rog from Czech Republic for very little money. Unbelievably the horse won at Stratford on debut at 40/1 (I didnt have a penny on!) and then was found out in better company thereafter. He was making his debut over fences on Sunday and whilst he was still very much in contention to my very novice eye his jumping was very erratic. Sure enough he came crashing down in the home straight and you knew instantly it was fatal. Terribly sad but part of the sport, RIP Roger. The thrilling upside came midweek when I caught up with Saturdays racing at Wincanton. Although you know the results it’s a great way to watch ITV coverage as I fast forward through all the guff! Al Dancer’s win in the big race was extraordinary. Top weight and sent off at the front and never headed. The ‘expert’Mick Fitz imploring the front 2 to slow down. I know it’s a different level but it reminded me of Denman’s Hennessy wins. Marvellous. Finally ATR have a 15 minute feature on Il Est Francais. Well worth a look. I really hope he makes it to Kempton on Boxing Day. So for todays racing. I also like American Sniper in the opener and in the XC a small ew on the outsider Back on the Lash @ 25/1. All the horses that have any experience of XC racing are out of the weights and BOTL won this a few years back. Good luck everyone.
had a small e/w & ew double yesterday on Stay if you want to 20/1 Shinji 25/1 in the first & last race
Looking forward to seeing Valgrand again. Visually very impressive lto. Today should tell us a bit more
Yeah I'm a sucker for visually impressive horses - must be my romantic streak. Give me Harchibald over Hardy Eustace any day of the week.
Just looked at the top ten steamers on atr as a couple at Cheltenham have shifted that i have backed as they should, but not one horse fom Cheltenham is in the list . They are showing in the Chelt list though. I can only think they dont want punters seeing these price changes .
The only thing that surprises me is the stepping up in trip. I thought Skelton might put him in the Greatwood on Sunday but he’d be close to top weight with his revised mark. Maybe Skelton thinks he already has the winner of that race in Be Aware.
Neither are as good as Starluck. I hate to say it Oddy, but I agree with your big race picks. I will be leaving Jonbon out though. I hope Tune In A Box wins the first (I am a sucker for greys) and Letterstone Lily is my best bet of the day in the last.
A fine grey and I remember Timmy Murphy getting on really well with him. Gave me palpitations when he nearly collared Go Native in the Christmas Hurdle
Some good jumping from the novices there. Springwell Bay pulled his chance away but Hyland did it very well from the front.
