Blackpool's last appearance in the Top Flight of League football was in the First Division in season 1970-71. This will be the 59th time the two teams have met and the first time since October 2007. The first meeting came on 21st November 1896 in a friendly match played at Tottenham Marshes which Spurs lost 2-0. The first Football League meeting between the two clubs took place in the Football League Division Two at Gamble's Field, the former home of South Shore FC, on the town's Bloomfield Road on 10th October 1908 and ended in a 2-2 draw. Spurs won the return match at White Hart Lane 4-1 in February 1909. The clubs met in the old first round (today's third round) of the FA Cup in January 1913 at White Hart Lane resulting in a 1-1 draw. Spurs won the replay at Bloomfield Road convincingly 6-1. The clubs met for five seasons in the Second Division from 1919-20 to 1936-37 with Spurs winning four games, Blackpool winning three games and three games drawn. Blackpool won the 1948 FA Cup Semi-Final against Spurs 3-1 after extra time at Villa Park in front of a crowd of 70,687 - the biggest attendance for any match between the two clubs. Blackpool later lost the FA Cup Final to Manchester United. The teams met for their first fixture in the First Division in August 1950 with Blackpool winning 4-1 at White Hart Lane. Spurs won the reverse fixture in December 1-0. From season 1950-51 to 1970-71 the clubs met regularly in the First Division with 36 matches played at that level. Spurs won 20, Blackpool won 8 and the remaing 8 matches were drawn. Another FA Cup Semi-Final at Villa Park was played in March 1953 and Blackpool were once again the winners, beating Spurs 2-1 before going on to meet Bolton Wanderers in a match which is now known as the "Matthews Final". Stan Mortensen scored the only FA Cup Final hat-trick to date as Blackpool beat Bolton 4-3. The most recent FA Cup meeting came in January 1991 with Spurs winning 1-0 away in the third round thanks to a Paul Stewart goal. The first meeting in the Football League Cup took place in November 1971 with Spurs winning 2-0 at White Hart Lane with goals from Martin Chivers and Martin Peters. A second League Cup match took place as recently as October 2007 with Spurs winning 2-0 at home with goals from Robbie Keane and Pascal Chimbonda. The last League meeting between the clubs came in season 1977-78 in the Second Division with Spurs winning 2-0 at Bloomfield Road with goals from Glenn Hoddle and John Duncan, while Blackpool managed a 2-2 draw at White Hart Lane with Don McAllister and John Pratt scoring for Spurs. Tottenham Hotspur have a very good record against Blackpool and have only lost one game (1-3 at home in October 1966) since December 1958 - a run of 24 matches which includes 16 wins and 7 draws. Overall, Spurs have won 30 games, Blackpool have won 14 games and the remaining 14 matches played have been drawn. please log in to view this image Full History of Tottenham Hotspur v Blackpool Matches 1896-2011 please log in to view this image They Played for Spurs & Blackpool.... We have 3 away league fixtures in a row (one of them played already). Due to the FA cup week in between, it does make it a long time.
Should be playing Arsenal this week at WHL but postponed because they are scared (and playing the CC final)
SPURS TEAM NEWS Rafael van der Vaart has joined the injury list ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Blackpool with a calf problem. The Dutchman will miss the visit to Bloomfield Road, along with Vedran Corluka (ankle) and Jonathan Woodgate (adductor muscle). ‘Rafa’ returned from a similar injury in time to face AC Milan in the Champions League last week, but manager Harry Redknapp today reported a re-occurrence of the problem in training on Sunday. He said: “Rafa’s had a bit of a problem with the calf. He missed a couple of games but then came back, played in Milan and got through 65 or 70 minutes there. Then he felt it yesterday morning and didn’t feel good. “He’s a fantastic player and we need him, but we can’t seem to get that run of games out of him. When he plays he’s been great for us. “I think he missed pre-season, that was a problem for him. He was away at the World Cup and missed getting that fitness behind him, so he’s just picked up niggly injuries since then. “Hopefully he won’t be too long. I’m hoping he’ll be back for the Wolves game. It’s not a tear, it just tightened up on him.” Harry continued: "Jonathan got a bit of a setback in Milan when he came on and felt a bit of a twinge. We thought at first it looked pretty bad again but it’s not too bad and he’s working his way back again. Another week or so and he should be back in full training. "Charlie’s had his scans and he’s going to be out for a little while. We’re not sure how long it will be before he’s fit to play." On a brighter note, Luka Modric is fully fit again following his appendix operation having played the final half-hour at the San Siro and Jermaine Jenas is available for selection again having served a European suspension in Milan. Longer-term absentees Gareth Bale (back), Tom Huddlestone (ankle), Younes Kaboul (knee) and Ledley King (groin) all remain sidelined, but Harry hopes to see progress over the coming weeks. He added: “We were supposed play Arsenal this weekend but they’re in the Carling Cup Final so that gives us a break until Wolves the following Sunday. This break will give us a chance to get a few of them back. “Gareth’s slowly improving so hopefully he’s on his way back. Ledley’s had his operation and he’s doing a bit of running and working outside with the fitness coaches so hopefully it won’t be long before we get him back. “Younes will start getting closer after the break and Tom’s working hard but is still quite a way off. But it gives us a bit of time to get one or two of them back into the squad.”
DAWSON ON BLACKPOOL... Michael Dawson knows we must be as up for Tuesday’s visit to Blackpool as we were for our Champions League trip to the San Siro last week. Now the dust has settled on that famous victory in Milan, it’s back to the bread and butter of the Premier League and a must-win encounter at Bloomfield Road as the race for top four places heats up. The captain believes Ian Holloway’s side, who are without a win in six, will be desperate for a three point haul that could ease their relegation fears. But ‘Daws’ is hopeful we can show the sort of character that has seen us win our last three games on the road both at home and in Europe. He said: “One week you’re playing against AC Milan, now we’re going to Blackpool and we’ve got to be ready for each game and take it like any other. There are three points on the line and we badly need them. “Blackpool had a fantastic start to the season. They’ll just be hoping to pick up a few more wins to secure their place in the Premier League for next year. “Hopefully we can go there and get three points like we have done in the last couple of games away from home, but it’s going to be tough. “Their fans are loving it no matter what team goes there and will be full of voice, while their players will play with no fear.” On our recent away form, ‘Daws’ continued: “Every time you play away in the Premier League it’s going to be tough and you can never underestimate teams. “It’s not always pretty. You have to dig deep when you go to places like Blackburn and Sunderland, and we’ve certainly shown the grit and character you need to win football matches away from home.”
CROUCH ON HOLLOWAY... Peter Crouch recalls fondly his days working under the manager of tonightââ¬â¢s opponents Blackpool, Ian Holloway, during his time at QPR. Holloway took over the helm at Loftus Road halfway through Peterââ¬â¢s one season there 10 years ago as they fought to stay in the Championship. They failed to do so and ââ¬ËCrouchyââ¬â¢ was sold to Portsmouth the following summer to raise funds, while ââ¬ËOllyââ¬â¢ led Rangers back into the second tier during a successful five-year spell. Now their paths cross again as we travel to Bloomfield Road for the first time in a Premier League fixture after more managerial magic from Holloway to lead them into the top flight last season. ââ¬ËCrouchyââ¬â¢ said: ââ¬ÅIââ¬â¢ve played under Ian Holloway at QPR and heââ¬â¢s a top, top man, a great manager to play under. ââ¬ÅHeââ¬â¢s a great character, so bubbly, lively, funny and great to have around the place. He loves his players and if youââ¬â¢re doing well for him heââ¬â¢s great with you. ââ¬ÅHe was great with me for the short time we worked together and Iââ¬â¢ve got a great deal of respect for him. ââ¬ÅHeââ¬â¢s done a fantastic job at Blackpool, and although weââ¬â¢re going there to get the three points, I hope they stay up.ââ¬Â ââ¬ËCrouchyââ¬â¢ is no doubt still coming down from the high of scoring that memorable winning goal in our Champions League, Round of 16 first leg win over AC Milan at the San Siro last week. But he feels the visit to Blackpool is just as key as we look to maintain our status in Europeââ¬â¢s elite competition for another season, and we go to Lancashire on the back of three straight away wins in all competitions. The striker added: ââ¬ÅWeââ¬â¢ve got no doubts this will be a difficult game. It will be a different challenge [to Milan] but one that is equally as important because we need to win games like this if we want to be in the Champions League and playing at places like the San Siro again next year. ââ¬ÅWeââ¬â¢ve been on a good run and gone to difficult places and won games. Hopefully we can continue that at Blackpool because it will be a tough game. ââ¬ÅBut if we apply ourselves in the right way, as Iââ¬â¢m sure we will, we have enough ability to go and get three points.ââ¬Â
**** off scared, you make it to the final? In fa cup? Enjoy the next leg you will not win it and we will then **** you all over the park at white **** lane

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR V ARSENAL 2-1! 14/04/10 What a game, what a goal, what a result, what a night! It's impossible to put into words the significance of this win. And what a way to do it! Summed up by without doubt THE goal of the season from 19-year-old Danny Rose on his debut in the Premier League. It took the youngster just 9 minutes to introduce himself to the White Hart Lane faithful and write himself into Spurs folklore; and just after the second half got underway it was Gareth Bale who capped off some stunning performances of late with what proved to be the winning goal. Gomes put in a scintillating display, Ledley was formidable at the back, Luka unplayable in the middle of the park and Jermain unstoppable leading the line; but in truth, as it has been all season, it was a team effort that fuelled this victory.
