Sad news Smug. Guess it's our ages catching up on us. We're at the Crem this morning saying our goodbyes to a mate from grindon.
sorry to hear the news smug, hope his passing was nice and easy...71 is a decent run though, sleep well Keith.
He was a one-off, looked like a history teacher but scared of nowt. Over the last few months the other lads kept me posted about his illness whereas me and Keith just talked about the results and the old days. We had some laughs, driving up to Roker Park and the aways games, despite the football and the gangs we'd encounter. I've enjoyed recounting some of our escapades and it really seemed to lift his spirits. One of Keith's favourite stories was the time we left St Andrews with all the Sunderland who were given an escort back to the buses. We were parked elsewhere so eventually had to branch off, as usual, and that's when we were really on our own. We were spotted by the Zulus, who'd been following the convoy, and no match for around 300 of them. We started chanting 'Sunderland', which seemed to confuse them, then pelted towards the minibus. I was running, while fishing in my pocket for the keys, and held my nerve to open the door and get the key in the ignition. Keith and the lads piled in and slammed the doors shut just as they arrived. I set off but was soon caught in the post match traffic and some of them were hanging off the sides. I thought 'f*ck this, sounded the horn and set off down the pavement swerving from side to side until they all fell off Mad times but just how it was.
Hi I’m Keith’s son Steve. Thank you for taking the time to write this thread it’s really nice being able to show the family and read all your nice comments. It’s helped put a smile on my face the last few days seeing the stories dad used to get up to back in the football days and how the Sunderland community come together in times like these. Thanks again from all of Keith’s family

Sorry for your loss Steve RIP Keith .Always nice to hear what parents got up to when younger save the stories , they are gold and most get lost with time ..
Thanks Steve, it's our pleasure. https://not606.com/threads/the-mansfield-lads-ride-again.406624/#post-16667053 Keith was one of the best and we always enjoyed each other's company. I have a photo I'll post when I find it, of the 'Mansfield Branch' we ran, I'm hoping Keith is on it. Incidentally Glen Potter, from Clipstone, otherwise know as Richard III has posted about Keith on RTG ... ... https://www.readytogo.net/smb/threads/keith-laing-ex-welbeck-colliery-rip.1644329/
Hi it's Jemma, Keith's daughter. We will be celebrating the life of Keith on Monday 9th December 2024 @ 2:15pm, where there will be a short service at the Isle of Wight Crematorium followed by a celebration at Ryde Social Club, Aderlaide Place, Ryde, from 3pm onwards, where we will be raising a glass or 2 in celebration of Keith's life. If you wish to attend both or either celebration you will be very welcome. Keith's wishes were for no one to wear black, and football shirts to be worn if you have one, Sunderland was Keith's team so red black and white is also ok. Also please can we request no flowers as he really didn't like them. We are unsure about donations at the moment. thank You Keith's family
For anyone who might have known Keith, Seaham and lifelong Sunderland fan. https://vimeo.com/event/4767047 2ZEVpEeB
Just been informed another Sunderland lad from Clipstone has passed away at 67, pancreatic cancer. He travelled with us in the 70's and was a mate of Pete Little who's just messaged. Rest in peace Chris, I'll raise a glass to you at the Millwall game.
