I went off him when he started spouting his political views. He ( and others in his position …Gary Neville) should stick to sport / football. Once you start bringing personal views on politics into it you’re going to alienate a decent size of the audience. And also would we be interested in what Laura Kuenssberg thinks of Arsenal’s back four - no I don’t think so!

For me it was the weekend the "all walked out" in support for knackers.Watched purely out of curiosity. Got fed up of MOTD editing games to suit a native because they favour one team over another. I remember we played Man U up here, Gary Nev had a dive in the box trying to get a pen, ref gave him a yellow for cheating..... never shown on MOTD.I never missed an episode when I was a kid though.

The best presenter of MOTD without a doubt ...

... and the last time I just had to watch.

I have thre greatest respects for Lineker. He's done an astounding job.on MOTD imho.

However, I feel it in my bones that if he is replaced, it will be a non-white presenter, or a female...or both.

    Please don't be Alex Scott....FFS.

There are so many other people who fit the bill because of their football knowledge and because of their broadcasting excellence.

    - Ray Stubbs, Dan Walker, Jeff Stelling, Mark Pouatch, Mark Chapman, Des Lynam, John Motson....etc etc.

Top class ex players or managers as pundits like -

Shearer, Danny Murphy, Michael Owen, Lee Dixon, Redknap, Souness, Allardyce, McCarthy...

In fact I would rather have Claire Balding or Gabby Logan than the f*ckers who can't speak correctly, or don't have enough knowledge of men's football.

Both Balding and Logan don't profess to know anything about some sports that they are presenting. Instead, they ask the ex pro's the right questions to get relevent points across, rather than the likes of Alex Scott, Carney, Somers, or Fara Williams making fools of themselves by inventing new football terminology like - "Why didn't he just shoot the ball"

    Rant over...:emoticon-0102-bigsm

I think we can safely say it won’t be Jermaine Jenas.

For all those that wanted Lineker off MOTD, wait til they wheel in the "positive discrimination" replacement. Be careful what you wish for <laugh>

I used to feel like this but increasingly I feel like politics simply exists and people will insert it when and where they can. The only way is for both sides to agree we shouldn't have it and they won't unless they're subjected to the opposite side projecting their views into the asport, only then can there be some kind of agreement that it's bad. So I'm hoping for a lot of that and then, perhaps there can be an agreement.

    I tried, I really did ...

... read that through three times and have no idea what you're saying.

    Can someone explain?

    For the kiddies class:

Politics are in sport already, the only way to make people see that it shouldn't be in sport is for them to be subjected to politics they don't like.

    No need for that.

If you made yourself clear, instead of trying to appear eloquent, people might have a clue what you're saying.

Ah, so it is Gary Lineker himself and his salary you don't like. Not his actual ability to do his job - fair enough. They won't replace him with someone better is what I am saying, in fact I am certain they will replace him with someone worse. Just like they did with Football Focus.

Eni Aluko will be involved somehow, very BBC.
Black, Woman, Woke and has recently criticised TV for not including women in top class football
Can’t stand Lineker but I respect his opinion because he played at the highest level, he is qualified to criticise.

I don't mind Lineker. It's good to have a prominent, left leaning voice to counteract the hateful unpleasant ones like Nigel Farage.

What kicked the whole thing off, if I remember right, was him tweeting that Priti Patel's language in describing immigrants was reminiscent of 1930s Germany. And it was.

And it was a tweet, not a political response aired on the show. I'll miss him, top bloke.
