For what it’s worth, there’s only one club which wouldn’t swap their season results for ours! And they had 2 points deducted.
Very little gets leaked at the club these days. When we hear things now and then, it’s usually bang on. Fingers crossed that’s not the case here
Mundle you would imagine would be 6 - 8 weeks as it did look like a hamstring Browne difficult to tell but was clearly in pain
Said a few weeks back that I worry when injuries and suspensions really kick in. Looks like that time is now. Let’s see what we’re all about
Millwall will be a **** show, but we will have bodies back for WBA. That becomes an important game if we fail to beat Milwall.
Regis Le Bris holds two separate meetings with Sunderland squad https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/s...holds-two-separate-meetings-sunderland-squad/ SUNDERLAND head coach Regis Le Bris was set to hold two separate meetings with his players early this week to pick the bones out of the disappointing draws with Preston and Coventry City. And while the head coach admits elements of both performances contributed to a "low point", he will stress the need for perspective and tell his players how proud he is of their efforts in the early stages of the campaign.... "Every game is a new opportunity to learn," said Sunderland's boss, with a tough trip to in-form Millwall facing the Black Cats after the international break. "We'll assess this game and Preston very closely, we'll have two reviews with the players and the ideas will be clear. "We have the first half as well, the way we played. We weren't able to maintain this quality of performance in the second half, maybe fatigue and maybe the inability to solve problems in real time - an idea can be clear in our meeting and in the mind of the players, but it is different on the pitch. It is about distances, connection and timing and against Coventry we weren't able to do it in the second half. "Even if we didn't have control, we still had the quality to create chances on the counter attack and we could have killed the game. We have to keep the consistency as a coach, staff and the fans as well - it is still a good start with 31 points from 15 games. "The first half showed we have quality, now we have to be more consistent. This is the next challenge for us. "As a coach, it is very important to keep the right level of emotion because football is unpredictable. Sometimes you deserve to win but you don't and sometimes it is the other way. "Coventry was the result you expect when you play as we did in the first half and then in the second. We have to keep learning, we have a lot of quality to develop and a lot of elements to build on. "I'm looking forward to that. Even with a bad second half, and we didn't play well at Preston - we didn't lose. Even at a low point, the level is not too low."
Just what you want from a manager, plain speaking and no excuses ... ... managers who always blame referees or claim they should've won 'because' really annoy me.
Agree, although I do wonder if some of these players struggle with the concept of,as RLB describes it, solving problems in real time...in other words,as the match is going on. Even if they're getting instructions from other players or the bench, can they adapt quickly enough? Of course, they can learn, but that can take time. I remember thinking last season that our dip in form was perhaps due to too many tactical changes.....I hope that's not starting to happen again.
I agree but I think I'd rather have patience, watch these players learn and become better, as Jobe and others have done. It reminds me of the old saying, 'Give a man a fish, feed him for a day ... teach a man to fish, feed him for life'. If RLB does what some managers do ... 'run there, move into that space, track that player back' ... they don't learn, they just react.
Some players will learn to implement real time tactical changes quicker than others, or might reach a ceiling that they struggle to go past for a while. As well as one or more players agreeing that they need to change the distances, or adjust the play, is one thing. All the players doing so in synchronisation is another. All part of the growth of the team and we will hopefully see gradual improvements across the season. It's clever stuff and would be nice if I understood properly!
You and me both marra! Like everything else these days.....it used to be easy to understand.....not so now!
What's irking me at the moment is this haunting feeling that this Coventry game is the turning point in our season, not only because we dropped points, but because we've lost a load of players for the coming games.
By the WBA game we will have a strong enough squad (Alese, Jobe, Roberts, Hume, Patterson all back) so it will "only" be Mundle missing from our first choice XI There is of course the question of squad strength but there's no reason to panic. Millwall might be painful, but after that we should be strong
Happens to lots of teams, Millwall have a poor squad, as do West Brom ... ... Plymouth was some people's turning point but we're still top of the league having played Leeds, Boro, Burnley. Remember we 'lost' Jack Clarke, Mayenda, Cirkin, Alese and still won games. Ipswich, and now Luton, have shown just how unpredictable this league can be, relax and look forward to Millwall.
I do look forward to our games these days more than ever, because even through the tough times there's that chance we can really turn it on and blow teams away. Millwall is a big ask for this, but Reg has a couple of weeks to prepare knowing he's missing 5+ players, I hope he can figure out formation and tactics to outsmart them.
Couldn’t disagree more. This may sound ludicrous but the milwall away game might be a game where losing the players doesn’t matter. their strength comes in crosses and set pieces. It gives RLB two weeks to come up with a plan to stop them scoring and we just have to nick one. We have the quality to do that. Then we get about 4/5 senior players back for the games against WBA and Sheffield United where we can play football. My opinion anyway you may disagree
It's rare they ever score more than one goal so I doubt we'll fail to pick up at least a point. Millwall are organised ... ... so are lots of teams but you can't plan for an Isidor special to be honest.
Since when have Millwall been Barcelona? Can't believe how many people are scared of playing Millwall, we have enough quality to beat anyone in this league little break which I'm sure regis will get his ideas across some more. We can be this seasons Ipswich imo.
