It was great especially after the two or so preceding seasons! Just to go and expect a win and mostly get one was a great feeling for me at least.
Whatever all our views on RM, and whatever our fixture run, it is categorically not essentially relegation confirmed. We're 4 points (or 3 points and a hefty goal swing) from being out of the relegation zone with 27 games to go.
Though you don't want to become a rank-and-file Championship team like Bristol City & Preston (the horror!). When we've been down there last (and this time) we've been upwardly mobile in the Champ.
100% agree. Apart from a spell either side of Christmas where we were red hot it was our quality and superior fitness getting us through games.
I played against Sturminster Newton Reserves many, many years ago - in the 1977 or 78 I think. The Lord Bledisloe Trophy and even though both teams were Saturday sides, it was played on a Sunday. We were Salisbury and District Division One and they were a few leagues above that. I was 15 or 16 years old and only played because the normal goalie couldn't play. We lost 6-2 and the Sturminster manager said I was really good - he might have been the Pep of his time, if we'd have won 2-0 he'd have hated me.
Good days, we are lucky it is a good club and more importantly has a club house for a beer during and after the game. They are doing quite well and got promoted to the Weston league which means game all over Wiltshire and to Bristol, not so good
You’re not confused at all, you think I’m talking bollocks and we’re playing bollocks Russball being vanity is just a way of saying you don’t care how we do it, you just want us to win a game Russ does care how we do it Lots of teams **** up at the back and we’re doing it much less now Strange that Kompany got that Bayern gig by playing bollocks too, but WTF do they know If you think Russ does this all for himself and doesn’t care about the players or the fans then you’re not much of a judge of character … in my opinion
Kompany is one example, whereas literally every other manager of any club ever has been judged solely on results. Plus Kompany got the Bayern job partly because he is a big name, the same reason he got the Anderlecht job despite no coaching experience. Martin doesn't have that luxury and will therefore be judged purely on how Saints perform.
And he also worked with Pep. The list of managers who came from his “school” who are doing well/in top level jobs is extensive. Martin came from Dean Smiths school
I didn’t think you were talking bollocks, and was very deliberately respectful how I put it. You forgot to answer the Q btw - what do you think is getting better? This is what you wrote, I didn’t understand what you meant. And if is doing most the heavy lifting in your response fella. Russball being vanity is in no means my way of saying win at all costs. That is a ridiculous thing to suggest, and bears no resemblance to my point. We play propaganda football that is boring as hell, in terms of having possession for the sake of it. We literally do almost nothing with it. There is no purpose to our play other than to pass back and sideways. This is the managers way of playing. It isn’t brave in the slightest, we are predictable and easy to play. But it is the managers way of playing, hence the vanity project. We have conceded the most goals from our own errors, and conceded the most shots directly from our errors. Do you not spot a trend?
This way of playing requires bravery and good decision making We are a newly promoted team so that’s tough However we’ve conceded 6, Brighton and Villa 5 and a few others others 4, so not a big gap AND we’re doing it less You’re not being very respectful to Russ though, are you
