Wonderful news. I just hope everyone does not get too carried away, MON is a very good football manager, not a magician. He can't just magic away the shocking inbalance in the squad. Hopefully he can get the best out of them which will see us stay up this season in relative comfort before he has a chance in the summer to craft his own squad, then we can get carried away and really kick on next year.
The only problem is the expectations we as fans have, some people on these boards have Martin already in the job and challenging for Europe next year. Alan Pardew had exactly the opposite at Newcastle, even Newcastle fans would tell you they feared the worse when he came in, and everything now feels like a bonus! I know its been a long time, an ice age infact, since we had success but i really hope we temper this will reality, i honestly would settle for not getting relegated this year. Its a month before Martin can change the team and we could lose to some big rivals until we reach then.
Err. Where has anyone said we are going for Europe next year exactly? He is at the AOL and half the worlds press have been assembled so you can be pretty sure its not to announce where the Christmas party is at. So I think we are justified in saying he is ours. Expectation is no higher than when any new manager comes in. Excitement and enthusiastic faces are exactly what o neill will bring and he will feed off that enthusiasm imo. Nothing points to up being Europe next year but everything points to us being a whole lot better. Let us enjoy that at least
I dont feel im being negative at all but just a realist, Martin is a fantastic man for the job but he does have a big task on his hands, it could take a while to turn the ship around, i really not but it may!
