Sunderland welcome Coventry to the Stadium of Light in the Championship. Last time out Sunderland drew at Preston and Coventry lost at home to Derby. Sunderland made three changes with Tommy Watson replacing Roberts on the right, Browne coming in for Jobe and Connoly starting up front, with Isidor moving to the left wing in place of Mundle. The Black Cats had another slow start and were almost a goal down in the first few minutes as Preston took control of the game. Sunderland worked their way back into the game in the second half but were unable to convert the few chances that they created. Simon Moore will want to start against his former club. Patterson and Alese are back in training. Jobe is suspended for the next 2 games. Roberts, Hume and Rigg are on 4 bookings with Mepham now on 3. Huggins, Seelt, Samed, Poveda & Abdullahi remain injured. Coventry lost 2-1 at home to Derby County who claimed their first away win of the season Jerry Yates led the way as Derby County ended Coventry City’s recent improved form. The Sky Blues had won their two previous matches but were far from their best against Paul Warne’s side. Mark Robins was sacked on Thursday after 8 years at the club, Rhys Carr has been appointed as Interim Head Coach. Ellis Simms is currently injured having missed the last 2 games with an ankle injury and is unlikely to feature. Regis le Bris: "It was another tough away game against a strong team. We struggled during the first half to apply a high pressure and we conceded many situations. "During the second half, it was much better. We changed the structure and the energy was better with the substitutions. "It wasn't enough to score but at the end, it's a good point." Presser at 13:00 ish on Friday Mark Robins (before he was sacked) "We didn't deserve anything. They worked their socks off and we gave them a leg-up with a goal from a really poor backpass. "We were too narrow. The space off the sides of them, we didn’t use well enough. They went man-for-man all over the pitch and then we struggled to find the space. "They made it really difficult for us to create any real openings. And those we did have we were wasteful with. "This group have to get used to the fact that this league is unforgiving and that you have to hit a certain level to have any chance of winning a game. You haven’t cracked it if you’ve won a couple, and you can’t just then swagger into a game like that." Coventry had a poor start but they seem to have turned their season around in the last few games – well apart from the very last one I’m going for a 2-1 home win. ** Arrive early for the Remembrance display - in seat before 14:45 ** Live Stream: https://www.safc.com/live Available to overseas fans Ha’way the Lads
I cant wait to finally see what Samed can offer in midfield. Hes out till early Dec though unfortunately
Good thread and about f*cking time. Who's going to be the first with 'new manager bounce' or ' the lads playing for Robins' ... ... they should've thought about that before he was sacked I think we'd have beat them if he was still there, now we have no excuse.
Hopefully take advantage of the turmoil going on there, they looked to have picked up but conceded some stupid goals yesterday, about time we beat these too
need a improvement of the last 2 games and get back to winning ways but Coventry are a bit of a boogey team
They’ve had a poor start but Coventry still have some cracking players at this level. It’ll be a tough game
Our midfield two, Neil and Browne, need to be twice as decisive and deliberate as they were at Preston. The ball needs to be moved a lot quicker otherwise our wide players are already marked by the time they receive the ball. The only good through ball was from Mepham and that created our best chance. And please don't let Neil shoot from outside the box, we may as well just hand them the ball.
Surely just by law of averages one will go in soon do worry for the corner flags when he lines one up
It really winds me up tbh. Under no pressure, central in shooting distance and unable to get the ball anywhere near the goal. It's demoralising and any top midfield player should be able to strike a ball cleanly imo. Incidentally, I hope Coventry bring in Rosenior or someone else capable after our game ... ... they play Burnley and Sheff Utd so a couple of results for them would do nicely.
Just beat the fkrs. As I say every time yes I still hold a grudge against the c*nts and would still love them to go out of business. PS, I will try and be more sensible with my next review of this weekends game. PPS, I probably wont though. Just to summarise yes I still despise these b*stards for what happened.
It's a strange one. His passing accuracy is excellent, but his shooting accuracy is appalling. This might be what is keeping the wolves away from our door. Top clubs expect goals from their midfielders and he can't hit a barn door with a banjo. I like him as a player, but if he's not already doing so (and there are no signs that he is), then he needs to practice shooting for a few hours after training in the same way that Beckham practised his free-kick taking.
It's a fact that Shankly wouldn't have tolerated him in his teams ... ... every midfield player, at Liverpool, had to be able to hit the target. Dunno how things are these days, in the PL, but I doubt there's anyone as bad. As you say, he can pass the ball to a player so why not into the net ... ... I'm starting to blame RLB and the coaches tbh. Either improve his shooting or tell him to pass to someone else.
I'm 100% sure the Coventry owner has their new manager lined up ... ... otherwise why do it now instead of during the international break. I think he'll be announced before Saturday or at least before their next games against Sheff Utd and Burnley.
Excellent thread again RTB, some of it put together at very short notice, following Robins sacking. I expect your team to be the one that RLB puts out. Listening to a lot of people coming away from Deepdale last night saying that the experiment didn't really work out and we might have been better to try these changes when our first choice midfield was available. We have a great home record this season and I expect that run to continue on Saturday. A performance like the Oxford one and I can see us winning by 2 or 3 goals. We haven't played well in the last 2 games, but still no one can break down our defence. It's time for our front 6 to step up again, Browne in particular, who was poor last night. Aleksic can't be too far away from an appearance. I'm going for a 3-1 win to keep the pressure up on those around us and take our points tally racking up.
Looks like we might just sneak a win . Match Thread - Sunderland - Coventry City Match Thread - Saturday 9th Nov | Sky Blues Talk
HA'WAY THE LADS MACKEMS ATTACKEM Need a win here at home after a couple of draws. 3 potentially tough games coming up. Especially hope we smash these twáts.. If this is our poor run of the season lets get it over quickly I'll go 3-0 to the lads Isidor, Rigg, and Mephan to make a career total of 4 (Ok maybe Mundle for the other goal)
Nervous about this one as I'm live scouting on Saturday, the last 2 Saturdays that I was out scouting we lost against Plymouth and Watford If we lose again I think I'll have to give the Saturday scouting up
I would like to see a change in midfield bring Neil out and start with Aleksic it was so disappointing watching Preston i was nearly bored to sleep. Aleksic is supposed to be great let's have a look of him at least. I couldn't watch another bore fest, watching the midfield cancel out anything approaching entertaining. That's why you pay your money to be entertained, its strange how you miss Jobe cos even on an off day by him It's still entertaining. I was embarrassed for his dad. But what support being in the crowd, i was well impressed we miss you Jobe.
